I just returned from three days at Summit Point in my Z. I can say that I had one of the best times of my life. I was running with the Delaware BMW club in the novice group. My instructor was great, and he seemed to really enjoy riding in the Z. My car was definitely faster in the straights than any of the the M3s, 5401s, Carreras etc., but I do need more skill in the corners. I was particularly impressed with the handling and acceleration of the Subaru STI, which seemed to always be on my tail.
I will post a few pictures later. Thank you to all of the forum members who gave me some great advice on preparing for this event.

Isn't tracking your car a blast. Makes "street racing" look like it's reserve for ...
I would bet you have learnt that you are not up to the full potential of the car. But with a few more of these events you will be.
I would not worry about a Subura STI. My son Dan, in a rented 6 cyclinder Automatic Mustang was faster then a Viper and a Z06 the first time he tried a DE. The Z06 was driven by a friend and after a few events Dan would not have a chance to even keep up. Track time seems to make the old Z06 go faster and faster, no mods required.
I am personally happy to read about an another person who has seen the light. Please continue and have the time of your life.
Get off the street and move up to the big leagues!!!

If you learn how to drive your car to the limit on the track, there aren't many guys that are going to get around you no matter what they have.
Were you on the main track or on the new shenandoah track? I've done four DE's there and it is always a BLAST!!! Usually after four sessions, I'm just beat and want to have dinner and lie down. But WTH...second best exercise in the world! First being sex of course!

Well... At my last event I had an instructor in his Spec Miata on my tail big time. He had owned a Z06 two years ago, sold it, and got a Spec Miata and went racing. (xsiveone Sounds familiar...) It was at a track with low straight away speeds, less then 120 mph and a lot of off camber turns. I could pull him on the straights, but coming into the corners there he was. Of course this was the race/instructor group so there was a lot of experience drivers.
Bob this why you need to do more DE's to get more experince then the other guys. For me the more I go out the faster I go. It seems that once I get into a group where I am blowing the doors off of every body I get moved up a group. I am at the point to were the only way I am going to run faster is to sell the Z06, spend the money on a cheaper car and buy a lot of track time.

Well.. I had Road America on my mind and good skill along with the Z06's power will take care of most all Miata's. If you don't have that skill though, even a Miata will pass you on a track like Road America. Not on the straights, but they'll catch you in the corners.

From looking at the Summit Point schedule and the number of cancelled events, it appears that the new circuit isn't going to be done for a while.

I was on the Jefferson Track for two days and the main track for one day. The Jefferson Track is shorter with a focus on cornering, and the main track with its longer straights allows the Z to show its power and acceleration. My instructor also recommended that I go to Watkins Glen. He said that it is a great track for high horsepower cars.
I am afraid that I am now hooked on DEs. It is only a matter of money that will limit the number of DEs I can attend.

Afraid !!! Embrace your fears head on!!!!! Glad to hear you like it so much. The Z06 is one great track car!!! You know it leads you to either go racing with it or sell it to race with a car you can afford.

...and you'll lose the STI like he was dragging an anchor.
just don't challenge him on the rally course
