80 miles in 38 min. 30.186 sec

We just completed the Road Runner Open Road Race out in West Texas with the above time in the 125MPH class driving a 2006 Z06. Talk about having a ball. These car are truly meant to run like the wind. The object of the race is to average as close as possible to your stated speed and first place is sometimes decided by .001MPH. Classes start at 85 and go up to 160 and even the Unlimited Class where it's "Run whatya brung, Hair on fire, fast as ya wanna go". See ---> http://www.rrorr.net/ for more.

The unbelievable part is they close a public highway for a full day and that's your race course. Don't get me wrong. There is nothing half azz or Red Neck about this. These guys are serious racers.

Now to some . It's hot 'n dusty in them thar hills.

Congratulations Tom. I can't wait until April to do the Big Bend Open Road Race. It should be a blast.

Sounds like you had a funtastic day!
Can someone do this event without a passenger? Mrs Zippy does not like "going fast," and wouldn't accompany me, and I'm considering entering it next year.

Sure. You can go solo, but it's tough as hell. I know a lady from the Lone Star Corvette Club that runs solo in the 140 and 145MPH classes and still places in the top 3.

Re: 80 miles in 38 min. 30.186 sec

I saw something on TV about this years ago and always have wanted to do it. Exactly my type of event.

Any similar events on the east coast?

Hey, Tom ...
You got me all pumped up at the Fest to go to Texas for one of the two road races ... (first opportunity would be 2009) ...
I still crack up when I think about that Buzzard and the NASCAR Monte Carlo ...
But I gotta work on the wife ... she "don't want to go to Texas" for a race

Actually, she's a real trooper ... stayed cool on the W.A.R.T. in '05. Just has a mental thing about Texas ... (had a less than enjoyable trip to west Texas MANY years ago
As for navigating ... true story ... we did a rallye before we got married ... we got married anyway ... ... but she doesn't rallye with me anymore
