I had such great response from many of you about my last Hallett race experience with the Porsche club, I thought I would share an even better one! Big thanks to Chevy for buildng an amaing car!!!
Event: 10/10/03 - National Porsche Club Race Weekend
Record turnout of Porsches! Many great cars.
Friday and Saturday were test and tune for the race on Sunday. I signed up under my Porsche to get in and showed up with Z06. After some discussion with the track police, I was allowed to race in the test and tune sessions only.
IN Car Camera shows it all!!!!! Understand my Z06 is a street car like most of us. First in my sights was a brand new Porsche Twin Turbo! Beautiful car, but can you imagine what it was like to pass this guy and leave him. I raced one in a straight line at Topeka on the main straight and it was a good race, but at Hallett, it's all turns and short straights. The Z06 is King!! A RuF Porsche Turbo was there too and passing him was tons of fun. He went wide on one turn watching my yellow Z06 fill his mirrors. As I was next to him on the inside through a turn, he dropped two wheels off the track and spun into the grass. Passing these cars with roll cages and as many mods as we all do is just a great feeling.
For any of you who have not yet drove your Z06 on a circuit track, you haven't yet experienced how amazing the Z06 really is in all areas! Here is a tip! Hallett allows any car to race for just $75 a day in its HST series(High Speed Touring). Passengers Allowed. That's right, Passengers allowed!!!! In my 15 years of racing, this is a first! You can imagine how many Vipers, Mustangs, Camaros, and anything else will catch on to this soon. Go to Hallett website and look for yourself.
Thanks to Vr1B, K&N, Hurst, Corsa, Simpson and all the other vendors making great mods for our cars!!!!! Having it all is so much Fun!!!!!
Now, if I could just sell my C5 wheels with Hoosiers and get some Z06 rims! Anyone?????
Oops. How could I forget to thank Stop Force for their amazing consistent performance. Afterall, they are Porsche brakes which all the Porsche guys liked. Finally, thanks to Brey Krause for the great camera footage and harness bar!
Very nice Andy, maybe I can get a ride along on your next trip. I'll even hold the camera

There is lot of grass and tire walls. I had been off and it is grass, no dust, no fus. The only thing I do not like is the corner burms. There are not smooth, they have ridges on them.
Let me know when you will be there as it is four hours away from Fort Worth. If there is a club event or DE during that weekend I am interested. Maybe I can try out the new tow vechile!

Passing cars at the track is fun; however, it's generally the driver you're really passing...not the car.
This can be discouraging to a lot of folks with Z06's who go to thier first track event. They think because they have a race car they are race car drivers and when a 16 year old in a rental Mustang is blowing by them they cannot believe it (That 16 year was my son and there was also a Viper he was passing) . This can lead to getting your ego bruised and you don't want to come back.
Remember most kids do not ride a bike on the first try. So go to more events and the good news is when you give it time the Z06 is a really, really, fast car, let me add a few more really, really.
Dave,
I had seen that link from the SCCA pages, but hard to tell from photos.
Thanks for the on the ground perspective.
After the SCCA determines the 2004 schedule, I'll post something about what I intend on doing next year.
Dock and Dark Helmet. I will take your compliment "It's the driver, not the car" Thanks!
My article was comparing advanced drivers with track prepped cars compared to my skills and Z06! I was in a run group made up of similar experience etc... Sure, there are events which let newbies and experienced on the track at the same time....but not in my event.
TX02Z06. Yes, I was Wally's first instructor! Good friend. Hats off to your son. Just keeping the Mustang on track with those lowsey brakes is a credit worth mentioning. Not to mention passing people.
Caveman! How are you? A good video would be a video of you trying to hold the camera while racing! Lets let the brey-krause camera mount hold the camera and you just come out and hang on for some intense fun!!!!!
Subdriver. Hallett is safer than most. Runoff room, but lots of tire walls. A very technical track! Very! Hardest track I have ever done. Although its hard to find better race times, it's a good track for first timers too because your speeds are not 150mph+. Rather your speeds are 110mph+. Locals say Hallett means BRAKES in the dictionary. It's all hard braking and hard accellerating!!!!!! Ummmmm CORVETTE Z06!

I thought I had driven on some tough tracks in my earlier life (Laguna Seca and Sears Point), but I drove at Grattan and Mid-Ohio this year and those tracks are equally challenging. I couldn't see most of the apexes at Grattan as most were blind. One was blind, downhill, and off camber.

I think Wally had you call me to talk about getting parts off of my Z06. My wife had a really bad acciendent and I was selling stuff. Turn's out Susan is fine and back to work full time. And as of this September I when back to the track. Just brought a tow vechile so life has turned around for us.
I'm a little fuzzy on what kind of track event we are talking about..
Is it actual 'racing', you know, with passing in the turns and real drivers, or is it a typical track day with drivers of all ability levels and ambitions just out to enjoy a day with their cars? If it's a track day, 'passing Porsches' has very much less meaning since they aren't really racing...
FWIW, I'm track day type. I haven't actually ever raced in wheel to wheel competition.
