I was at the track with Dad on Friday. We were talking to various folks, etc... And happened to be standing by a Z06 talking with its owner. This kid who I had seen out before walked up. He hangs out with a group of gypsies (no, real gypsies). They are a group of street racers who hang out together, most of them are related (go figure).
Anyhow, this kid procedes to tell me how the Z06s just aren't very fast. Hmmmmmm, ok I'll bite. So kid how fast is your car. 12.3s on radials. Ahhhh I see. He asked if I had a Z06, and I told him I did. He asked what it ran, and I told him 11.9's on radials and 11.8s on ET Streets. He then asked what I had done to my car. When I told him nothing he obviously didn't believe me.
Since he was driving a stick car on radials we talked about launch technique, and I think I manged to convince him that Z's aren't slow. Its just that most of their drivers are a bit more conservative on their launches than he is. In talking with him, he has been through 4 clutches in 6000 miles.
It was funny, he then said. "Well,ok not all Z06s are slow, I got beat by one". Oh really what color was it? "Black"... Hmmmm what did it run It ran 11.77 but it had mods. Then he produced the timeslip. He was the guy I ran in 3guns car. The slip he had was from 3guns car the night I ran it.
He found it hard to believe a stock Z06 would run an 11.9 on radials and an 11.8 on ET Streets when a car with headers and an exhaust, etc... went an 11.7.
I explained that I was driving the car on that pass, and that car was much faster than an 11.77. Probably a 11.5-11.3 on a good night But that was only my second pass in the car.
I happened to remeber I had my slips in my truck, so I went and grabbed them out of the truck and went over to the lanes a bi later and showed him the 11.8. Maybe from now on, he'll be a little more careful of those stock Z's....
