I got to the 1/4-mile track for the first time with my car a few days ago. I have the standard bolt-ons of intake/exhaust (including headers), plus a TNT 100hp shot. I'm running Toyo RA1 335's out back and the car is set up for autocrossing (which is what I mainly do with the car). The tire pressures were 30#, and I know that this is not exactly optimum.
Well, my first time my car kept wanting to roll out of the staging lights (backwards, I think), but the tree went down anyway and I didn't get a great launch. In fact, my 60' time sucked at 2.25 sec. I still pulled out a 11.992 run at 125mph. I figured with practice I could whittle this down to 11.500 or thereabouts with these tires (and hopefully a 60' time of about 1.7 sec). Is my thinking correct with these expectations? Also, with ET Steets, should I be seeing something in the high 10's with practice?
I would love to do ET Streets, but I'm afraid I'd break something really fast. BTW, some of the H/C guys see high 10's and they have a mere fraction of the torque that I have with my shot. This is why I was thinking that, with practice and ETs, I should see 10's. Just curious if it is possible.
Yes, high 10's are very possible. I went 11.02 at 128 on drag radials. I have had some head work and a new cam put in and just haven't been able to get on a good track. I am probably running over to Orlando Speedworld Friday February 6th if you care to join me. We could probably switch the drag radials at the track if you wanted to try them.
Enjoy,
Jimmy
I would love to meet up with you, but I want to try to improve my launches and 60' times before I use ET's or DR's. Last Friday night at Orlando Speedworld was nice with cool, dry air.
I would go with et streets to get your best 60. They flex more than dr so they may be easier on the car also. I have used both. If you get your launch down you will see tens. My car went 10's with cam only(401hp n/a). The launch is the key. You can expect 1.5's at least.

robz can you please explain how et streets would be easier on the car?! the way i thought about it was... if the wheels dont spin then that pressure has to be put out throught the gears ... and since et streets allow less tire spin there should be a greater force on the transmission and output shafts.. am i correct?
Im not really sure. We'd have to get others opinions. I have been to track rentals where 3 cars broke shafts and they were on bfg dr. All other cars on slicks were fine. Maybe just a coincidence but they definitely flex alot more. Hopefully others will chime in.
1)drag radials are cheaper because they will fit on your stock rims and most serious guys buy skinnies up front when getting slicks, so your talking about 2000 dollars vs 300 dollars.
2)I think drag radials are more street friendly, hard to drive with skinnies around turns.
3)dr also hook great many guys have run 1.5x's and have a more stable feel due to the stiffer sidewall.
Both are a big difference from stock.
