As I mentioned before, I am preparing my car for a drag race that requires "off the shelf" radial tires with a minumum tread wear of 180. Drag radials and road race type tires are prohibitited.
Which 18 inch raidal hooks the best?

Ranger is that true
Before I changed to DR's was told by lots of folks that a true burnoff wouldn't help with the stock tires.
I was just avoiding the water altogether and burning off just enough to warm the tire to the track temp.
Then again, I never got better than a 2.01 60' while on stock either.
Maybe I was just getting bad feedback

Yup...back into the water, spin them one revolution to get them wet. Pull forward out of the water; and then burn out the stock tires as if they were drag radials..til you get several seconds of good smoke.
I found this approach, that others follow as well, gives much more consistent results than I got by "just cleaning them off and launching."
Generally speaking the rule of thumb that you do not want to heat radials is correct as hard rubber gets slippery, not sticky, when warm.
The F1SC tires have a soft compound so they stick better warm. Warm means you want the tire at about the same temp. as the track surface (or slightly above).
So you can back into the water box and do a "wet" burn as Ranger advises and it will help (I have done it). I don't like to do it with these friggin expensive tires though, so what works for me is a dry burn out of 2-3 seconds (in first). Less rubber to clean off after racing too I manage 1.9-2.0 on tracks with no VHT and 1.8X on tracks with VHT using this method. Not saying my way is better, but it works for me (and took a lot of practice - I started with 2.3 60' times first few times out).

PS: Ranger, sorry you will miss the Fest - I was hoping you, Powershifter and I could line up and play. Oh well, next time

The F1 is one of the best consistant off the shelf tires you can get for the price. I use them on my low 12 98 SS on occasion if I dont want to put on my drag radials. However if you are willing to spend the money the BFG G-Force KD will blow it away hands down.
Now burnouts on street tires is a subject of much debate. Some say clean the dirt off with a quick chirp, some say use the water, some say dont. I average about 80 passes a season and Ive been through it all. On both my drags, and my street tires. My f1's have been best by completely driving around the water and backing right to the edge of the water. You dont want the tread grooves sending water into your wheel well as it will drip back on to your tire at the line. Get right to the edge maybe a couple inches in at most. Smoke em just enough to get a good puff of smoke (dont be john force) and pull up a bit. Do a quick dry hop to test em...stage and go. Ive seen 1.87 60 fts on f1's at the track so it can be done. My car is easier to launch than yours..but sub 2.0's should not be a problem.
There is no right one way, if it works for you it is right. That said I do put a little heat in the F1, but never back into the water to do it. The tire breaks loose easely snaping the clutch. How much heat has to do with track conditions, but more to do with the combination you choose between air presure, clutch engagement technique and rpm at launch. The reason for practice is to learn how these relationship changes affect you runs, so you can make better decisions from the experience you gain. That's my .02. Ric

silver state what times you running in the 1/4? best times i've seen in vegas on a stock or modified zo6 is 13.4
what event you racing that only allows that specific tire?
I don't know what it will run - bought the car about three weeks ago. Although I should run it bone stock and THEN add bolt-ons before I run it again, I might just install some bolt-ons and run it.
The event I want to run is the PSCA Pacific Street Car Assoc. EFI Class. The Z06 with a power adder seems like a good candidate for that. I will probably just try it on the motor with bolt-ons - probably won't win, but might place third or fourth. The record-holder ran a 11.6 and the format is bracket racing. When I attended the event in Vegas, I didn't see any formidable cars in that class. Therefore, if the record-holder doesn't show, red lights, or is generally inconsistent, then us slower guys might win the class.
I use the Bridgestone S02 295/35/18 (ferrari F50 size) and do very well on the strip with them. Of course the BFG DR's on a set of 17" front C5 rims hook the best when running points races.
