Clutch and Hurst Shifter Questions
Just curious about a couple things. I have been having problems getting the car into third gear lately. I went to the track Friday night and made two passes, unfortunately missing third and fourth gear on both passes. I was on the return road after the first pass when I hear a clunk beneath the dash. At the time I didn't have a clue what it was. I came back around for the second pass and missed third again. This time on the return road I go to push the clutch in and realize that the clutch pedal hasn't completely returned. Its stuck have way up. I had to put my foot behind the pedal and pull it forward. After I did that I parked the car and it sat for about half an hour. I went out that night and have driven it since and haven't had any issues. I haven't abused it since Friday night though. Any ideas on if something is heating up and binding as to why the clutch doesn't return? Is this why I am having increasing difficulty with missing third and fourth? When I first got this car I drove it for year and never missed a gear. Now I am truly convinced there is something wrong or I can't drive this car anymore, or both.
Hurst shifter? When I had the head work and new cam installed a friend installed the hurst shifter. I haven't looked at the adjustment since its been done, but are there any pitfalls to avoid or tricks on how to adjust one. I am sure with a little effort I can dig up the paperwork for it.
For the record I do about a 3-4 second burnout to heat the tires in first gear. Could this be lending itself to the clutch heating up and binding some how. It is a stock clutch with 18,000 miles and probably 50 passes on it.
Thanks,
Jimmy
