Corvette Takes Third Consecutive GTS Victory at Sebring
The Corvette Racing team took an impressive flag-to-flag GTS victory at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. Ron Fellows, Johnny O'Connell and Max Papis claimed the class victory in the #3 Corvette C5-R. "This is an historic race and it is great for us to win here three times in a row," said Doug Duchardt, director of GM Racing. "Sebring was our nemesis in the beginning of our program and we've really put a lot of effort into developing the Corvette for this track. The #3 Compuware Corvette C5-R of Ron Fellows, Johnny O'Connell and Max Papis started Saturday's race from the GTS pole position, 10th overall, after qualifying at a record-setting 1:57.052. The trio briefly surrendered the lead to the partner #4 Corvette C5-R, but again took over the lead on lap 30 and held on for the remaining 299 laps. With Sebring's victory, O'Connell becomes the first driver in the 52-year history of Sebring International Raceway to capture six class wins, with one of them overall in 1994.

My only question is, Who's butt did we kick??
The two Ferarri teams that finally got cars that were equal or better are gone! I don't know of any other team in GTS that had factory backing. I may be wrong?
I'd like to see the Z get competitive against the Jags in TransAm!!
The other Lou (Gellotti) sp?? jumped ship when he dominated in a vette a few years ago. Then he jumped to Ford and now Jag ie Ford+.
I think the TransAm series hits closer to home with Z people than ALMS GTS the way the classes shake out right now!
From my viewing perspective, the World Challenge seems to come closest to Trans Am...the REAL Trans Am, circa 1966-72. Production-based, some factory support without ruining it for privateers, and close racing. Broad-based support from many makes. THAT'S racing...
still good to win...but it even seemed like the guys announcing on speed vision were aware that competition was lacking...think about it they had to conjure up "THE POTENTIAL" for the saleen...since they had nothing good to say about their effort...

The Acemco Saleen, even with all the problems they had still managed to finish. The #4 C5-R did not. (It doesn't appear the collision caused the later clutch failure.)
The Acemco team did a great job considering the car was brand new and untested.

They were saying Magnussen fried the clutch with the doughnut.
