Ran Roebling last weekend - Just got some pics one of the event guys snapped, thought I'd post em. Nothing too amazing, but thought I'd share (I'll post the video of the GT3 Porsche going off, on then off again right in front of me). The first is in the staging lane, the second down the main straight. The event had a low turnout which was awesome - there were several times I was on the track _alone_!
Roebling is a fun track, doesn't cater to high powered cars (though it's fun with the Z coming into turn 1 at 138 ) - not a heavy braking track either (what you save on brakes, it makes up for in tire destruction!).
It's prevent the tire and track gunk from splattering the sides and fenderwells (lots of melted tire rubber on the track). Plus it provides a little extra paint resistance to small rocks, tiny animals, and track gnomes. Most of it is concentrated on the lower parts of the car, basically where the tape is - and it's a real PITA to clean up! This way I pull off the tape and it's perfectly clean Only takes about 30-40 minutes to tape up. I never noticed it as much on my black car, but _wow_ the yellow shows everything.
FYI, I just use quick release, blue painters masking tape - there's specific race tape for this application (in various nifty colors), but the stuff I'm using works great, is *very* cheap and easy to find. It stays on even at 138 MPH and is even pretty rain/water resistant.

The tape helps keep rocks and tire rubber off of the paint. We use a clear plastic film to cover the entire front and hood too. Go to the carpet dept at home depot. Ask for the stuff that is used to cover new carpet in a new house so that people won't get it dirty. It does not leave any residue at all. $10 for a 25ft roll or $20 for the 50ft.
Here is a pic of mine in battle mode:
DT04R, What kinds of times where you running there? A few of us where there over the easter w/e earlier in the year. I think I ran a 1:26 or so. The left outside of the left front tire takes a beating.
I've occasionally dipped into the high 1:26's/low 1:27's (+-0.5 on the timing accuracy) on a really solid lap (usually the 1st or 2nd lap after a good warm up) - I was happy this time that I was consistently running under 1:29 lap after lap (with most sessions averaging 1:28 which includes the goof laps )
Yeah, RR is BRUTAL on tires, especially that drivers front (I have a post right now "Need drivers front") - I've run RR twice, the first time, my pressure was a little low, tire took some damage before I corrected it. Then these same tires have also done Sebring and 5K of street driving.
I'm going to do with some dedicated street wheels/tires and track wheels/tires in the very near future. Thinking of some GS 17x9.5/17x11's for the track with Kumho Victoracer 600's.
We should definitely hook up at an event sometime! My wife and I usually stay where we want (vs. the "track" hotel) - we were down at the Hyatt in downtown Savannah this time, and had a blast, plus we used Priceline.com and it was only $75 a night!
Seeya -

DT !!! I think I saw you on I-95 headed home on Sunday... I want to guess that the time was between 2-3pm? Was that you? Do you have small pony tail, very slight grey hair???
I was coming back from my trip from Philly in my wifes Blue BMW (see my other post about long drives in the Z)... you were driving nice an easy (75) in the right lane... I blew by you on the left left.... (80-85).
Cheers. It looked like your car held up pretty well (clean)....
Did you find your tires yet? Are you interested in heading down to Sebring 12/13?
Take Care.

My car "stealth taped" at Roebling ... You can't tell my car is taped from a distance. Certainly not at 145 down the main. Even the badges/headlights/brake ducts are taped.. Red/Red
Umm, heheheh, I don't think that was me - er, at least I don't have any grey *yet* (not much at least) No ponytail to speak of (just some shaggy beach hair).
We did leave a little early Sunday though (about 2pm), and we would have been on 95 about 60 or miles south of Savannah! If it was a MY Z06 with the big #26 and all the blue tape it _had_ to have been me. My wife was following in her black 325Ci convertible (she was laughing at the grey hair pony tail comment!!)
Sebring would rock! I'm really looking forward to getting back - CMS is running it in January, but the SAFE event would be great too. (probably "instead of") I'd just love to run Sebring when the temp is not 120 in the shade (always manage to make it there late May/early June which is rough). Maybe I'll send in my SAFE application sometime soon, see if I check out OK to run with them. I have a bunch of small upgrades planned before Sebring as well: brake ducts, lowering, track wheels/tires, '04 shocks, possibly SS or Ti brake pistons, probably run some PFC 01's or XP8/XP9's too.
The track prep on your ride looks great - the stealth tape is unreal - can't see a *hint* of tape anywhere! I'll stay in touch RE: the 12/13 Sebring event. Maybe we can even caravan down - my wife totally grooves on the accomodations down there too! It's nice having a 4 star hotel right ON the track.
DT -- roger that. Are you heading down to Ecklers this weekend?
I am thinking of driving down with dpassell (Don).
Yeah, the Chat Lan at Sebring is pretty cool. (I am still boycotting French names). Not like the 5 mile+ haul to RR from those I95 hotels is it?
I can't say that I remember the 26 number for sure. But a yellow Z06 with blue tape headed bound on I 95 just south of Savannah is what I remember very clearly. You were lookin good... I was envious... cursing a 2000 mile round trip in the BMW in 2 days, and to add salt-- there is some guy coming out of Roebling with a Z !!!! Hell I know that post DE weekend bliss... you feel like Mario Andretti and like you hit the lotto because you have no car damage, at the same time.
Maybe you had a ballcap on and that was what drew my attention to your hair/pony tail thing? That, or you just had a bad hair day, generated by "helmet head". I get that too.
