Couple of road racing related questions

1) Anyone install the G2X Racepak? If so, whered you mount the dash mount? Any pictures appreciated.

2) What full racing slicks do you all recommend? The max width in street nomenclature I run are 305's in front, and 335's in rear, so I'll be searching for similar size.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Couple of road racing related questions

Can't help you with the first one... for the second, I'd ask what do you need them for? Actual road racing, or track days.

In the SCCA T1, we must use tires no wider than 315 and on 17" rims, which somewhat limits our options... and they must be DOT legal. That said, the DOT track tires are pretty good these days. I think the Kumho V710 is a good bang for the buck track tire. I run 315/35-17 all around on 17x10 fronts, and 17x11 rears (by rule). 275/40-17 front is another alternative on the same wheels.

Re: Couple of road racing related questions

The tires would be for road racing. I've got a few spare 4 wheel sets of Hoosier R 06's in storage for toying with and tweaking aspects of the car, but I end up finding that they lose performance after around 6 heat cycles. The full race slicks would be for the rare occasion when something's on the line.

I don't have to meet any class specs.
but you've intrigued me with the 315 thing.
How do you like running 4x315's ? How's the dynamics of the car feel with that combo?

My experience may be a little misleading. With with the 315s shoehorned onto the 17x10 wheels up front, the tire notably bulges and I'm not getting the full contact patch while cornering. In cornering, I can tell the difference between the 275s and the 315s but the difference is very subtle. Where I think the 315s help is under braking where I believe the tire squats and gets a bigger bite. Plus there is more mass so they may absorb and dissipate heat better.

On the downside, they are wider and heavier and I've heard that the 275s up front are faster on high speed speed tracks like Road America.

If I weren't constrained by class rules, I'd probably run an 18" wheel up front with a 295 tire, and a 17" with a 315 in the back.

Hoosiers for sure. Mounting 305 & 335 x 18 on mine today.
