Daytona Rolex 24 Pictures

I had the opportunity to spend the weekend as a guest of The Racer's Group, last year's winning team. We had all-area access and my buddy Jason shot a few hundred pic's with his new Sony digicam (very cool unit). I thought you folks might find this interesting.

BTW, the winning "Pontiac" was running an LS6-based motor (not stock). The "Lexus" motors were based on the Toyota truck unit of NAS-Truck fame. I believe the the ill-fated Crawford-Chevy of Earnhart/Stewart/Wallace was also running an modified LS6.

All three vettes' were running at the finish, although I don't believe any were well-placed.

To bad I didn't know a fellow Z06er was in our midst. I was the fueler for the #68 Racer's Group car (red fire suit w/custom corvette helmet). I was also working on "the famous 962) Leyton House Porsche in the HSR events. I was the one with the "Motorsports Attorney" shirt on.

The page is down. Sounds like a lot of fun though.

That's pretty interesting about those motors. So they both ran the GM LS motors. Were they carburated? I saw a Wilson Intake manifold sticker on one of the cars. I thought maybe they were pretty much running de-tuned NASCAR motors.

I saw your ride in the lot (name on the roof?), red with single-tip stingers? I've already volunteered to help with future events. I would have preferred to help rather than just standing around.

No carbs on the prototypes, it was the stock composite manifolds that originally tipped me off (with MoTec ECU). I asked one of the technicians for the Doran team and he verified the LS6 heritage.

The number 60 vette ran a carburetor set-up. Looked like a tube-frame refugee from the Trans-am series. I didn't get a look under the hood of the number 47 or "Highlander" vettes

#60 IS a refuge' of Trans Am's days gone by, but a fun ride for Puleo, Dubler et al. They raced last 2 years in AGT @ Daytona.
Wilson does make EFI intakes, on a "custom" basis. C5R-style, various options (port nitrous etc.), depending on displacement, type of use (drag, roadcourse etc.) etc. If your pocket is deep enough, they can make an intake for just about anything...
My friend has a Wilson sheetmetal intake (and some Warren Johnson internals!) on his tube-frame Pro Tour S-10, 558" alloy BBC pick-em-up that is port-EFI. Only 700hp and 750 lb/ft...great grocery getter!! And VERY "streetable"....

Here's the link to the Daytona Prototype approved engine list:

Note the stock manifold, throttle body and CR requirements.
