Last night my wife and I went out and on our way to dinner a VIPER pulls up next to us. It looked a little older than the newest one but I am no expert. It had 2 stripes down it and it was red, the stripes were gray, I believe. If it wasn't raining there would have been a race. Who would have won if I drove the car perfect with a passenger in only. He had no passenger. DR. BIGG

What year is your car and is it modded?
What tires do you have?
What year was his and was it modded?
Was your traction control on or off?
Who was the best driver?
I guess if you could answer all of that, somebody would calculate an answer. Otherwise it is anybody's guess.
OH Wait a minute. What am I thinking? You would have kicked his B**T
My guess would be I am the better driver. I have proxes on the car. They were there when I bought it. Stock sizes. I am not modded and he did not seem to be modded. I am not sure what year he has but mine is 02. I have 20,966 miles on the engine. Traction control would be off. Dr.Bigg
Stock for Stock, equal drivers, you are even to about 60 and then you are toast. (If it was a Gen II)
I wouldn't be so sure about that. I raced a Gen 2 viper and he had a nose on me from a dig to about 110-115. We were pretty much dead even to about 90 and then he very slowly started pulling.

Believe me, I own a Z06 and drove a GEN II Viper many times, and I also raced the same Viper plenty of times. Past 90, the Viper isnt going to pull away "very slowly", rather, it is going to pull away hard. From a dig you might be right, but if you were to race one from a 40 to 140 lets say, the Z wont stand a chance.

I agree...they put down around 480 to the wheels with minor mods. I raced a gen II when I had a cam only and I got walked like a puppy.

I've run a Gen 2 Viper a couple times now and he didnt pull away. He was a RT/10 Convertible, not GTS Coupe. He was a 450hp car and he didnt pull away, rather I pulled away from him. We raced 3 times on 2 seperate occassions and both times he started out infront (1 car) and I would catch him and put atleast 1/2 car on him until mid way thru 4th at which point I let out and he was behind me. All I have is a Blackwing and a t-stat, I believe the Viper was stock; he didnt win either time so you should do well against one. Vipers also weigh about 250lbs more than a Z06 with only a 50 hp difference; factor in the weight and that difference goes to 20-25hp (10hp per 100lbs) that should come down to the driver. When you say Gen 2 Vipers you are talking about the RT/10's and the GTS Coupes arent you, the SRT/10's are the only stock Vipers that are going to run away from a Z06.

Good evening.... Just my $.02 about Vipers..... I don't know very much about the old and new but I can say this..... My brother-in-law has a 2004 Viper and he got it back recently from a tuner out in Texas. He has an all motor N/A pushing 750 HP at the crank and 740 Ft. lbs. of torque at the crank as well. I haven't had my car on the dyno since I did my mods recently but I will guess that I am now around 600+ RWHP and the same on RWTQ all motor. I consider myself to be a decent driver and I was on street tires when we ran. 3rd and 4th gear I made him look as if he was standing still and then he was right on my back bumper and then went nose to nose all the way up to about 175 where I called it quits. Mod for mod w/o wheel spin and no traction I know I have him but he's got me on power somewhere whether it's HP or Torque or both. For all I know he may have put a bottle on the car that's how it seemed the way he caught right back up to me or maybe his midrange is better. He is a sore loser when it comes to anything competitive so I wouldn't be surprised if he put a N20 kit on for insurance. I wish I knew more about his ride but I don't. We both have big bucks into both cars but I clearly would never trade my ride for his. I can drive my car everyday and be quite comfortable. I drove his car and when I got out I felt like I needed a kidney belt and a few days off from work. It was such an uncomfortable ride and noisy as hell. IMHO for a straight line car that's the ticket but for overall day-to-day I'd swear by my car and never go to the other side.

Well the guy that I went against has been racing for 20+ yrs., so I know he knows how to drive. Like I said we went to about 110-115, and at 90mph is when he started to pull on me. Also as I said before he was barely pulling on me. So for you to say that pull away "hard" was not my experience. I don't know what would happen if I went from 40 to 140, but I do know what did happen when I went from a dig to about 115.
What gears do you have? If you have 3.90s or 4.10 that could be the reason he caught up to you quickly becuase those gears suck in fifth!
3.73's going back to a 3.42 or maybe even a 3.15. If this calculation is right he should be putting down about 640 HP and 630 Torque to the rear wheels. I didn't think that little difference would let him get right back up to where I was but maybe it's more HP/Torque than what they quoted him and they're keeping it hush-hush. We're going to try to get to the track this season and go head-to-head. I'll have more mods by then and pick up a few ponies by the beginning of the season. ALL MOTOR Those gears could very well be the cause who knows? I'll just wait it out and see what happens.

the viper you saw was more than likely a year 2001. red w/ sliver stripes was an option that year. stock for stock my year 2001 viper is just a little bit faster than my Z06 in all performance categories. as you begin to mod both of these cars the viper keeps this advantage as well. the vette makes for a more comfortable street ride though. but as far as racing goes i pick my viper over my vette. it doesn't take very much modding to get you Z06 to beat a stock viper though. so mod your vette and beat half of all the vipers you see on the street. only like half of the vipers you encounter on the street have mods anyway.
