JEM (Jose) tried to get me out last year and work was just too hectic, so when he called around January I agreed to go. I had the time of my life, driving my Z around that track. The first day was sunny and by the end of it, I thought I was doing alright (about 90 seconds, a lap).
In the morning of the second day, I had Jim47 (Corvette forum) go with a ride with me giving advice. Between that and riding with him for a session, watching how he was doing it, I learned a HUGE amount. By the early afternoon, I was going around under 80 seconds in the rain. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be driving 115 on the back straight in the rain on F1's and feeling confident!
My only regret is that I did not do this sooner. Needless to say I hope to get at least back to Pocono to do the Long course this year.

Had to repeat this. I see you broke the trend . I bet you understand it when folks are saying waxing and going to Hooters is for ....
Going to the track is where is is at.
Next time try a DE with an instructor for the next event. You will be faster, much, as they will correct a bunch of mistakes. I would bet you will find 115 mph on the straight slow after a few days of instruction.

Very Cool
Jim47 is a PDA instructor and I agree. Getting instruction really made the difference to enjoying the event. The East Course is only 1.3 miles with 10 turns, 115 is higher than Jim could get in his stock 2004 Z - just not much of a straight away. That's why I have got to go back to do the Long course - 2.5 miles
I am seriously hooked, might have to sell my Zanio for new brake pads...
Depends on the instructor. Some events that I go to don't have instuction and others have lousy instructors. It's like.. "Have you driven this track before? Yes. Great! Want to be an instructor?"
I think I need to tag along with the PCA or BMWCCA boys because they have much better instructors. I think that they actually train their instructors to be instructors. Either that or do a DE with one of you guys as an instructor.

I like a nice looking car, but fussing over it to the point that it ruins your enjoyment of using the car for its intended purpose is rediculous IMO.

They have instructor clinics. Senior instructors go out with junior instructors and drive like a student. They focus on the instructor learning to recognize problems and correcting them. They even have you use key phases using simple terms. My favorite is "gas!"

Tom,
Sounds like you had a blast. Giving me something to think about.
BTW, I say sell the Zaino, but buy a cam. The cam will definately make a difference on the Long Course.
Come up to Pocono on May 8 and run the north course.
Alan

Don
The Straight truth...
Sell the Zaino and spend the money on more track time. You will be suprized how fast you will go with more track time. I have watched too many folks with high HP cars run slower then folks in low HP cars.
An example comes to mind and it was a point a the next day's driver meeting about High HP car and Low HP car driven by more experienced drivers. A friend in a 240 HP M3 was blowning the doors off of a guy in a Twin Turbo Prosche on the corners. The guy would get Ian on the straights and would never give Ian the passing signal. Finally the Prosche was called in and given a talking to.
Once he would let Ian pass it was amazing how far ahead Ian would be when the session ended.
FELLAS...after warming up on the north & east courses, you NEED to run the 2.5 course! We just ran the north last weekend and it was fun til it rained on sunday but let me tell you, the back strait is the NUTS! Contact JOHN REESE 800 485 5084 to see if any openings are left..... and bring LOTS of gas..... I went thru 1.5 tanks on the north course sat and that was only 140mph.....

It's been awhile but I just recently got some pictures taken of JEM and I from JEM's father of this day. JEM is the red vette and I the blue. Off tomorrow to drive the long course.
