IMO - The 2002+ LS6 is safe to 7000 rpm. Your results may vary. I spun a stock LS1 to 6500 on a routine basis for 25,000 miles with no adverse effects, so I figure the LS6 redline is 500 higher, so 7,000 should be good. Not scientific, but seems to work.
The fuzzy dice I ordered came with a free gift - LS1Edit. I'm not 100% sure which one affected the limiter, so to be safe, get both.
Shifting your car higher will get you a better time but do not shift the car at 7000rpm. The limiter can be set at 7000 (mine is 6950 and I have the pushrods and other stuff to support that) but shifting it at 7000 which means the shift could occur after 7000 would lead in something most likely breaking. If you had a solid roller cam it would be different. Your mph and times are not what you would want because you shifted before you really got into your power. You probably had another 20-30rwhp up top if you stayed in it till about 6600. Get some tires, raise the limiter, and get back out there.

Say guys,
I may be mislead but you're talking about shifting at higher rpms to get more out of the HP range. I went and looked at the log from my dyno pulls and saw that peak HP was @ 5750 while the thing was only making 296 rwhp @ 6500.
I had been shifting at the higher rpm while at the Fest but now I'm wondering if maybe I should be hitting around 62-6300 to get the most of the peak HP???
Could someone offer some help here?
I also spin excessively coming out off idle and rolling into it. Shifting 2nd, spinning, third she'll jump sideways after a powershift. But then, I'm only getting a 2 sec 60' because of all the spinning.
I have'nt tried the drag radials yet because several guys suggested getting good with the F1's first then using the DR's. I guess I just have to practice, practice!!

I have the same problem you do. I don't know if it is "me", my car or e-town itself. I suspect that the track sucks.
The track doesnt suck. However , it is hard to launch at e-town especially, with stock tires. If your fairly new at drag racing as I am, the more power you have the worse you'll probably do. Some guys even launch from idle at e-town with stock tires. So it's safe to say that the track prep usually ISN'T great there, but it is a smooth track. Also, a hot, humid day will kill your ET at any track which is the norm at etown during the summer. Even with a stock Z drag radials are necessary in most cases to post great ET's. Some guys have posted great times on stock tires but they are the exception. Most people whom Ive spoken to DON'T feel it is a fast track. Average/ beginner driver on stock tires/stock Z at e-town/ no powershifting probably runs very high 12's. Just my opinion. Now Ive seen a near stock Z do 11.8x at etown with bfg's.

I agree with you about the high 12's. I can't get down the strip there any quicker, spinning at the start and spinning on my 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. I can baby it out of the hole, but I'll probably spin on those shifts anyway. I'll try e-town once more before I spend the extra 20 minutes to get to Island.
On a related note, my trap speeds are in the 111 - 113 range, which I think is a bit low. I think that it might be running rich at WOT with my Halltech trap. The inside of my tailpipes are black as can be. Maybe after my motor vehicle inspection, I'll have an LS1 edit done to see if they can fine tune the WOT mix.
Mike sounds like your ready for drag radial. Your times are great on f1's. Get the drag radials and hold on. You see what the car could really do. I havent been able to put a great run together just yet, but youll be amazed how different a 1.6x launch feels than a 2.0x. Time to buy a new pair of shoes.
F1's vs ET streets on a very close to stock 03 Z06 dropped me from a 12.7 to a 12.3, with .5 of that being in the first 60 ft. My MPH was down but the ET streets kinda cause that. Of course on a milder or closer to stock Z06 the drag radials would have been teh smarter choice, but I'm learning teh car close to stock before, and got the ET streets with room to grow.
