ET Streets and Skinnies on an 01

Hey all!

Looking for some folks opinions. Can a stock 01 Z06 clutch hold up to even one launch on ET Streets without slipping(including a burnout to heat the tires)??? My ZR-1 can handle it fine on the stock clutch but I feel the 01 clutch could be a little more robust... Comments?

Just thought I'd say hi Brian! I'm the proud owner of an 04 now.
To throw out my 2 cents on the clutch, my 99 LPE TT needed a McLeod dual disc to hold it. Eventually you'll need one. Take Care

Well:

I don't think it will bog... The clutch will slip or it will break something.. I still think the clutch will slip trying to launch with an ET street aired down to 15psi... Any more opinions??

you could probably break your half shafts.. but its not gonna break the first time you would need more than 5 6000 lanuches on average to break stuff..

I have made about 20 passes with no slippage but I have never launched over 4500 RPM. Best 60 ft 1.48

I've seen multiple shaft breakage with stock C5 6 speeds trying to hook like that. DR's would be a better choice IMHO.

So......

You have made 20 passes on a stock 01 clutch with almost 500rwhp and ET streets and it hasn't slipped. That's very encouraging.. How do you heat the tires up? On the ZR-1, I get the tires wet by turning them over a revolution or two in first gear, roll out of the water box, grab second, rev it up to 4 or 5 grand, let out the clutch and ride the brake while they heat up. I've been concerned that the same procedure would get the 01 clutch too hot and it would slip on launch? It seems that may not be the case at all! Any additional info would be great!

I heat them up same as you only in 1st gear. It takes a good burn out to heat the et's so I believe 2nd gear is the better choice. I will be trying that method this spring.
I might add I don't expect my stock clutch to hold up & I'm replacing it with a Spec III & 3.90 gears.

We got 200 plus passes off the first clutch plus 12k before it started sticking to the floor. Our car is 02. Those where all off of ET streets.

We also got approx. 150 passes off our 00 SS with 01 385 hp clutch before we traded it in on the Z
