first race this weekend

Well got the Z out Sunday and went on some back roads, still trying to get used to it. I was fooling around and in my mirror I see a new Z28. I wasn't thinking anything running about 60 when i look back and he is right on my a$$. so i dropped it down in 4Th and hit it and he stayed pretty good, then I went to 3RD and nailed it running around 70 and left him badddd. i looked back and he is way back there, so i slow back down and here he comes again, gets on my a$$ and is acting like his going to pass, so i drop it in 3rd again and leave him again, man this had my HEART POUNDING then i stopped at a store thinking he would stop too, but he just revved his motor as he drove by. what a fun car. I STILL COULDNT GET OVER THE RUSH.

Congratulations, get used to it!

One month owner here...A red Z28 was my first race.

I was at a red light and remember being a little nervous, because I had never had to launch the Z before (when it counted) and I could tell the Z28 had raced alot of times, I think his cam and rear tires gave it away. I launched at 2k rpms rode the clutch for a couple of seconds then nailed it and the F1's held, second gear pull, pull, pull-the race was over when I shifted into third-he backed off, as he falling behind quick.

There are very few feelings that would surpass the feeling I had during the conversation at the next red light when we rolled down our windows. The kind of conversation where a loser has to give you credit and compliment your car. It was great, his car was loping and I asked him if he had some work done. He said "heads and cam done and you." I replied, "bone stock". He said, "your car is nice and fast". We had some more brief conversation, but I could have stayed at that light all night, hearing from someone else how awesome my car was. Classic.

I'll never forget that or get used to it.

I remember my first Z06 kill, does that count?

Actually on the very first test drive we pulled up to a light right next to a cocky guy a yellow S2000, it wasn't even funny how bad he got smoked. we bought the car 10 minutes later

Just wait until you run across something more powerful than a Z28. The rush is even better when you completely DESTROY an exotic sports car like a 360 modena or a porshe 911 turbo. Consequently, my first race with my Z was with a 360 modena (I had about 750 miles on the car at the time). We were on I88 late at night and started from 40mph. He stuck with like glue in second gear, but I started pulling away from him in 3rd. After it was all said and done I was doing about 150 and the Ferarri was a good 10 carlengths behind me. I'm sure I probably could do a LOT better against one now that I'm completely comfortable driving the car.

Save your money and get a supercharger or something. That way the extra power is always there and not just there for a few seconds on occasion. Personally, I'm going to have a vortech supercharger installed on mine after I get it all paid off. My neighbor is making the ultimate splurge when he gets his Z toward the end of this winter and is planning on going straight to a Lingenfelter 427 twin turbo package (lucky bastard). He says he's going to drive it off the lot and straight down to the Lingenfelter shop in Indiana to have it built. Hopefully he'll let me take it for a drive after it's all done.
