First track day...what a rush!!!
I hooked up with a local Vette club for an autocross event. The track was a small road course (about 0.6 mi) and appeared to be a private facility that's also under contract with the Sherrif's office for their driver training. I almost opted out because I don't yet have track tires and didn't want to fry my Pirellis and I must say...after hearing so many opinions about a 19 inch wheel pkg not being good for track use, I walked away thoroughly impressed with this setup. I almost had to work to break traction. I've run the F1's agressively on the street and I feel that at least on my car, the 305/275 Pirelli combo has superior traction.
The start of the course was a 90 mph straight leading into some seriously tight stuff for the remainder. The average lap time hovers right around 1 minute. After a few warm-ups I turned a best lap of 57.1 seconds. As a comparison, the fastest time before I left was a Lingenfelter blown car that ran around a 54.3 (Joecoooool's car) and a Ferrari Berlinetta and several head/cam C5's and Z's in the 55-56 sec range. What an awesome time. I left early but I'm sure there will be lots of pics to post later. Only problem now is I'm afraid I might be hooked
