it is very common in these cars, the left side half shaft always gives out first i haven't heard of the right one ever breaking i dont know why ? my friend who is a chevy mechanic says to just replace the left one i don't agree with that i would rather replace both left and right half shaft at the same time because of labor costs and it's apart anyway ,why take a chance of stressing out the right one and having it fail later on down the line .your smart for replacing both .

cartek is right they modify some of the fastest naturally aspirated corvettes out there they would know. i have heard and seen these parts break. after market suppliers sell these shit driveline parts that cost more than stock with no warranty and they f--kin break it pisses me off .EVERYONE IF YOU BUY AN ORIGINAL GM PART FROM CHEVY like these half shafts they warranty it for a year not bad heh i would definitely purchase these parts from gm until after market suppliers offer a warranty on these parts i know these parts are being put under alot of abuse but don't sell these after market parts if they can' t f--kin hold up .
( JUST MY OPINION BUT WHAT DO I KNOW)

Did the Half-Shaft break (with the boots on it), or the axle output shaft break (Inside the Axle)?

So where on the shaft did the left hand axle shaft break?
How much torque does this car have? How long did the stock shaft last?

Zippy,
I live in Warren.

the reason the right side dosen't break is because its part of the spider gear forged in one piece. it's only about 6 inches in length with a side carrier bearing holding it . the left side which always breaks is about 12 inches with no support.

Maybe my logic is bad but I would think that under high rpm 'hole shots', the half shafts are more vunerable than even the output (drive) shaft.
Am I wrong on this?
