Full Drag Racing Report..with some C6

Just got back from Cecil County Maryland for my second attempt in drag racing. Last year my best run was 11.98 with a 1.80 60" at 117.7. Since then I've added the Long Tube headers and tune. Last year I was on BFG Drag Radials on ZR1 rims. This year I was running my nitto 555RII's that I drive daily. I couldn't get them to hook quite as good as the drags. On the street they're perfect. On the track I wish I had my drag radials on. My best pass was the following.

1.869 60'
5.061 330
1/8 7.666
mph 98.03

1/4 11.788 @ 120.14

I feel for sure that if I had my drag radials I could have hit 11.6's or even 11.5's . I was launching at about 3500rpm. Rode the clutch first 10 feet. Half powershifted 2nd and full powershifted the rest. Shifted at 6500 never hit the limiter.

Here's where it gets good. I made several passes during the day and people began to talk about the driver. Everyone was pointing at the pits and "There's that Corvette" "that thing ran 11.7's". When I hit 11.7 they made me re-tech the car. I HAD TO WEAR A FLAME JACKET. I'm like this is my daily driver. The guy didn't care. He's like you're lucky for that new 11.50 rule or you would be gone. I must have said no nitrous 50 times during the day. People started to get curious what I would run with their car. This guy came over and handed me the keys to his wifes BRAND NEW C6. I was like holy sh!t. 1500 miles on the odometer precision red. The car's awesome.....but slow. Launched at 4grand on stock tires. 2.13 60' 13.34 @ 110 not too bad considering I drove the car 0.3 miles before I ran it . Ran a 98 C5 with exhaust. 2.1? 60' 13.30 @ 109. During the C6 run it felt good going into second. When I hit 3rd it felt like I went into 5th. Felt like there was just no power. I actually thought I had hit 5th and was pissed for about 20 seconds till I realized redline in 5th is a lot higher than 110mph. I was very hung over. This was the second day. The only thing the C6 was lacking was power. The interior is very nice. The center console is very lame though, especially by the heated seats buttons. The heads up display is greatly improved. He had the XM on when I got in. I noticed you can listen to fox news ...amazing. Great short shifter. The seats felt a little too firm. Want to write more but must get to sleep. I have video of the C6 run and one of my slower runs. The vega still could not get traction. ran it at 11.90 @ 90mph. didn't need the shute for that one. .

Perhaps. I wish I could have gotten a better 60' out of the nittos. Hasn't people like Ranger and Brent gotten a better 60' with the stock tires? I've got to learn how it's done.

Great time!

Quickie question:

Does your local track have a sub 12.0 second roll bar rule too, or just the flame jacket rule?

John.

Nice runs brother!!
Im impressed with your z06.

Im dissapointed in the c6. Why is this thing slow? Its a TAD faster than the previous c5's (ls1).

Nice runs. Too bad that the C6 feels like the power goes out after hitting third!!
I don't think I read in the nhra rules where you need a flame jacket for runs 11.5... Cecil county is a pretty good track though.

John.
They did have a sub 12 roll bar rulebut now every trackhas changed it to sub 11.50 for a stock appearing vehicle. After talking to a few people I've found that sub12 means flame jacket.

real nice runs.....you have to admit....there is no place like going into 3rd gear in a Z06.....I know when I am in 3rd.....everything else on the road is behind me!!!

I am not surprised about the c6 and its times.....and I am glad to know someone else does not especially care for the c6 seats. I am a big guy tall and broad shoulders...the seat bolsters in that car hit me right in the ribs....would not be comfortable for me on a long drive....when the Z comes out I expect that I will need to get after market seats in order to be able to sit comfortably!

good runs again!!!! now where is that nitros....hahaha
