17 months had passed since I last ran my car on drag radials. So my launches today at Maryland International Raceway weren't very consistent. Too bad too. The density altitude (DA) was a NEGATIVE number. I ran with the Halltech Tric cold-air intake mounted. No other mods.
The engine was really pulling strongly in the cool (52-62 degrees), dry (48-50% humidity) air with a very good barometer (30.40). These numbers are from Accuweather.
My best run of the day was 11.66 @ 120.43. DA at the time was minus 200 feet, measured by my TAG weather station.
Three other strong traps. 120.52, 120.08, 120.01, plus three more over 119.75.
Only time I've run in similar air was at Cecil County Dragway in Oct 2002, when the car, in identical configuration, ran two passes with 120+ traps. Not everyone believed those numbers. But the numbers today, in similar air, back them up.
Sure hope I get to run in this weather again...and do so once I refind my "normal" launch.
k ranger... now thats it... 11.66 is not good enough for you .. but can i get a 11.66 guys like you make me proud but also make me feel bad as i dont drive my car anywhere close to how good you do it...
robz, Looking forward to the Atco rental. Guess I must learn to avoid wincing at 4500+ launches. Hope I can do that.
02 Z06 Racer, I'm tracking the weather. If Mar 27th is like today, I'll be at MIR. Hope you are progressing toward running again...soon.
2002Z06Yellow, The key to improved performance is practice, practice, practice. I was inconsistent today in launches and ETs. Once I returned to basics, my performance improved.
Regarding a "good DAs"...depends on where you live. Here on the East Coast, anything below 1000 feet is good (my Page Ranking ET is at DA of 1200 feet); closer to zero DA is great (my PR trap is at a DA of 62 feet); below zero is fabulous...and rare. Many parts of the country get great air. But it's alway a question of what the air is on the weekend you can run.
Ranger:I think I was launching at 5K at atco with the same bfg's you have and dead hooking at one rental. I feel more comfortable when the wheels spin a bit reducing strain on the car.
No doubt that atmospheric conditions play a significant part in the perfromance of the car and in the times you will be able to obtain. Nice cool air temps, medium humidity and good pavement are huge factors. Take the same car with the same driver to a hot, humid place like Florida in the summer, 90+ degrees 100 % humidity, you can easily add 1 to 2 seconds to that time.
