This past saturday night I finally got a chance to try the Z with my ET streets mounted. I ran against a friends 03' Cobra that has the following mods. CAI, Bassani xpipe, 2 1/2" pipes, flowmaster 2 chambers, chip, smallest pulley made for blower(2.73?) and Et streets. My Z has TB bypass, 8.5mm wires, UD crank pulley, 160 tstat, LS1 edit and Halltech CAI. It was the best race I have ever been in, unfortunately it was a losing effort.
I didn't get enough heat in the tires so I spun a little in first, nor did I speed shift, or I would have had him. The Cobra driver also had his problems. He told me he botched 3rd gear and the boost dropped just long enough to slow him down(hence the low 1/4 trap speed). Props to the Cobra guys, those fricken cars are fast!!! Damnit, it looks like my tax refund will have to go to H/C package!!! Then we'll see who's kicking who's ass!!!!
Thanks for the Kudos JW z06. Next time he will be mine!!!
No, I am running on 26 x 10.5 x 16 ET streets w/ 15lbs. I just need to get more heat in them next time to hook, and I should be able to shave another tenth or so off of my 60'.
Thanks again guys, but it's still a loss to the dreaded dark side!!! Especially to the guy I lost to. He is an x-GM guy, who gave in to the lure of HP and sold his SS Camaro for the Cobra. On top of that, he is a CHP. How sweet would it be to beat a ticket writer!!! Oh well, non-the-less, he is a nice guy all around. I am just bummed that I didn't have enough to get him, this time anyway!!!
Nice run. I think you have 11.5's or better in the future. If you get your 60 in the 1.5x's you may pick up three tenths on the top end. Keep practicing on those tires.
Yea he f'd up and I still lost, but then again I spun out of the whole and he hooked. So it could have been anyones race if we both didn't screw up. The vehicles were so evenly matched that it was purely up to the driver.

He f'd up, or so he says. Not withstanding, excellent job on your part and considering the mods done on the "dark side " vehicle you more than held your own. Get that car in for H/C package and he might end up writing you a ticket because you kicked his a..
No doubt that the '03 Cobra can be pumped up to some high power numbers, but that wouldn't be anything that would cause me to buy one. In stock form it's a very heavy car, I don't fit in it at all, the steering wheel is canted off to the left, and the shifter is in a terrible location with long throws. When you corner hard in the car, the high CG is very apparent.
