hello everyone, I have been around here for a little bit but never posted..... I have a 2002 EB/ mod red Z06... I think I am talking myself into racing this car on occasion soon. I am a female and would like to know opinions on some of the things I should do to prepare myself for this... I have been learning/reading about different things when it comes to racing... learning the rear ratios, engine set ups, tires, shifting, etc... I also have a 98 that I professionally show but did take it to a 1/8th mile strip and loved it... got it to 80mph and thought I did well for first time.. .7 RT... need work there.. it was also an automatic... just wondering where to start... this car is my daily driver and wouldnt want to do this too much to do wear and tear... but I am afraid I would get addicted....
I have added a new air intake and KN air filter along with coupler, thats all so far... prob really doesnt help much...
here is a link to my website with pics of the ZZZZZhttp://www.rebelcorvettes.com/my02z06.htm
Welcome Tracey. Agreed. It is VERY easy to become addicted. From looking at your website pics, I can immediately see that you pride yourself in giving your C5s a lot of TLC. If you start going to the track and getting all too serious about "racing", to me, it is like going over to the "dark side" of Corvetting. Your beautiful babies will soon become abused children and you'll feel all too quilty for treating them so badly.
Just kidding (sorta).
They are really YOUR cars to enjoy anyway you like. Just be careful out on the track, and don't get too caught up in the competition aspects of it. The main thing is just have fun!!!
Welcome. I think dsinned put it best. You can have a well maintained car and still use it for racing. But, it will most likely need some extra maintance and cash injection. Even something as simple as Auto X will result in hitting cones. Some marks come out easy some do not. When I got my 96 LT4 Corvette, I treated like it was my most prized thing in my life. I did not even want to get it wet. I started Auto X and every time it got real dirty do to racing in the rain or if I got a few big cone marks, it made me sick. If you are going to enjoy racing, you have to be able to accept more wear or you will be misserable. I bought my Z06 for one reason, to use it just about any time. If I break it, I fix it.
I love going fast. If you feel the same way, look at your pros and cons and go with it.
My car gets a lot of aggresive racing. Every so often, I bring my car to my paint and body shop and let him polish it. Have not needed any body work yet.
The best part is in the last year and a half. All major cosmetic damage has been on the street. Hit one rim at the bank and door got rubbed in a parking garage.
One last bit of info. Watch your modification if you want to race. That air intake will but you out of stock with the SCCA. Not a big deal starting out but something to keep in mind.
Good luck
