I begin driving instructing on Saturday @ VIR - wish me luck!
Hi all:
Just wanted to let everyone know that after a few years of track driving and almost 20 track weekends, my instructing career officially begins this weekend at VIR Full Course with THSCC. I'll be an instructor in training with a mentor, but will have a "real" student. I'm a little nervous, only because I want my student to get the best possible experience and not be disappointed because I'm a newbie at instructing.
Being a good driver does not mean you can be a good instructor. I just hope I can do both!
Incidentally, this will also be my first time on Hoosiers and I also just bought a HANS device along with the new FIA-approved rollbar padding.
Wish me luck! I'll see you out there.

There are tons of events at VIR. I always use http://www.trackschedule.com to find out when I want to go next. My next trip personally is March 6, but that one is closed (and virtually impossible to get in because our BMW club has over 2,500 members).
THSCC's next event is in April and I think if you sign up now you may still be able to get in. I will be there as well. My wife and I try to go at least once a month. We're addicted.
Hope to see you out there. There is nothing better than to hone your skills on track. It really does help your street driving immensely.
Hey Redshift... I'm guessing that I'm not getting off the wait list. I'm going home to Greensboro that weekend anyway. Any chance if I show up on Saturday morning with a check in hand they'll squeeze me in?

A friend told me about the BMW day in March, I didn't know it would be hard to get in. April I am doing the Disney thing, got to keep the family happy.
As for the BMW club, it gets so competitive that they have had to implement EARLIEST ACCEPTED POSTMARK requirements and lots of people will actually FEDEX overnight their applications in. It's nuts!

I do not want to be accused of Hijacking your thread. check out the link.
Brian,
Good luck and have fun!
I instructed at my first event here in Memphis this past November, a PCA DE. I was pretty nervous as well. It doesn't look the same from the passenger side as from the driver's side!
But, I had a great time. Both my students were very competent, listened to what I had to say, and stayed within themselves.
I'll likely do it again if I get the opportunity. I think I'm considered a qualified PCA instructor now.
Cool, Brad. I hope mine goes just as smoothly. Don't forget the new FIA padding for your rollbar this year. High impact stuff! I hope you are already using a HANS as well? Expensive but well worth the protection.
I hope so too. It will be great to meet you. They should post a student list soon. I won't be instructing at that one (they require 25 schools minimum, and I am just reaching 20) but maybe later this year.
