I need traction help

I'm looking for some new wheels and tires. I would like to go as wide as I can without doin any cuttin. Also want these tires for the strip and street. I have tinkered with this idea but the other night I kicked the azz end out doing around a 100 and got spooked. Please help.

Thanks,

Joe

I suggest you call CCW and ask John how big you can go without tubbing. I have seen C5's with 335/30/18's on 11.5 wide rims, but IMO it doesen't look quite right. I'll help you spend your money and suggest you buy a set a 19" CCW's in either 345/30/19 or 355/30/19 steam rollers and tub the car. I have seen several tubbed ZO6's and that combo looks great. Looking at the car from the inside you can't even tell it was tubbed.

Was another 2G's for tubbing

i think traction will be very hard to find with 19's... you will have to stick with 18's if you want traction.. as far as how wide without cutting.. i think its 315's

I'm planning to mini-tub & go 18"(F) & 19"(R) with either 335's or 345's on the rear. Would you mind explaining your thinking behind your belief that I shouldn't expect better traction with a 19" wheel? Thanks.

why would it be harder to find traction with a bigger rim?, i guess i never thought of it before.

I have 315-30/18s on the rear. I wouldn't believe larger would fit. 335s are almost an inch wider than 315s. Split evenly across the center of the wheel, that's just under 0.5" to the inside and the same to the outside. The 315's on my car just barely tuck under the lip of the fender. And having had the car on a lift recently, I can say that on the inside there's very little clearance (maybe < 0.5").

If your serious about traction, tire sidewall height is more important than width on the track.

Your better off with 17" Rims, with a 35 or 40 series aspect tire than 335's on 19" rims.
The 40 series aspect tire gives the tires some sidwall flex that is critical for good grip off the line.

Having said that, your car's going to feel like jelly on the street though.

Thanks for the input tlaselva.
I had never considered using 17" rear wheels.
Is this the general rear wheel recommendation of the group?
Yes, I'm serious about needing more traction.
Right now, in 1st or 2nd gear its like riding on a sit-n-spin.

you dont need 17inch wheels to find traction ..

you are looking for looks and traction.. and you will have the best equilibrium between those two if you put 18's all around with 315 drag radials... and you will have traction .. but you wont feel comfortable driving around in the rain..

with 19's the side wall is smaller than with 18's.. that is why 19's are usually usless for traction even though they look good. with that power level you cannot find traction with a 19 inch wheel.

It's all relative.

Yes, 18" tires will grip better than 19" in general.

As 17" tires will grip better than 18", and I should clarify, in straight line acceleration.

But as the aspect ratio increases, you also do so at the sacrifice of lateral stability. The 17" will be noticeably less stable on turns and at high speed, than 19".
