I Suck...

I can drag on the street, but none of that seems to work on the track...

Well... I took the Z to the local drag strip... they had just sprayed the track goo on, right from the launch pad all the way to the end of the 8th..

This was my first run ever in the Z... I had dragged my 996 Turbo a few times before to see what it would do and ran a 12.38 at 118.

Well... here's the odd part... on the street I've launched nicely many times... and haven't been out launched in the Z actually, I launch from idle and swap pedals out quickly (no dumping) and the car squats and goes... its impressive..

Because the track was sticky I decided to launch it a little harder.... but I didn't move and I hit the rev limitor... the car just lit the tires up... when I put it in second it did the same thing... I was upset... I figured maybe I should try to warm the tires next time (in the Porsches I never bothered, but they were AWD.

So... try two... I'm worried I will light the tires up, so I launch Really gently, and bog the bad boy... I run a 13.2 @ 109 with a 2.2 60 foot (31C outside)... There are far to many Ford drivers at the track telling me how to launch at this point so I go home.

I'm going to go earlier in the day and try again.

I'm confused I've read some people here dump the clutch out pretty high... I assume they don't just mash the gas pedal to the floor immediatly after or they would have the "smoke the tires off" issue...

So anyway... above I have listed all my excuses... what am I doing wrong?

BTW... I ran with just traction off... I didn't do competition mode... should I use competition mode?

Hey Seth,

I went to the track last week and did horrible myself so don't feel bad. I can drive the car great all day long on the street but the track is another animal.

My hat goes off to the guys running their cars it is not as easy as it looks. I'm not sure if I really want to beat my car up anymore trying. After reading what everyone can run the car, I am confident that it is quick. I am also happy with the way that I drive the car so I am not sure what I can really gain by racing it....

For me, I think I would just end up getting more aggravated. Oh well....It was an experience. A humbling one at that.

Went to the track this past sat. Ran a 13.0; 12.9; 12.8; settled about 12.6. All my runs were at 110-111 mph (this is real strange). The staging crew put vht in the water box. For my last run turned a 12.41@111. Temp was mid 90's and D/A was 28 (sux). Another EB there (with vortex, hurst and DR's) turned 12.09@115. For the et's, the mph seemed rather low. But overall happy with my performance. Cool air will be coming soon!!
