i955 vs stock Z

My wife and I were on a road trip up the Pacific Coast Highway this week, and somewhere in northern California we were in the right lane at a stoplight when a yellow crotch rocket with i955 on the tank, squeezed between us and the car in the left lane. I don't know bikes very well and I didn't have much time to check this one out, but as we waited for the light I noticed there was open 2 lane road ahead and no one else around but us.

When the light changed, I let the bike go first, and he promptly moved into the left lane, so I punched it. I'm not really sure if he knew we were racing at first, but when I banged 2nd gear and the new Toyo's hooked up with a yelp, there was little doubt. He was on my front bumper at that point and that's also about the time I started to gain on him. By the time I banged 3rd he was beside my door, and I couldn't help but chuckle as I saw him do a double take as we roared past him. It was a Kodak moment for certain.
I pulled pretty hard on him through 3rd gear, and he had backed off by the time I got to 4th. I slowed down and let him go by and gave him a He waved and went on.

Just a couple boys and their toys...

Dang it, I sure love my Z!

Sorry to burst your bubble but a new Speed Triple has 120 horsepower with a dry weight of under 420 pounds. With a 200 pound rider you're looking at well under 6 pound per horsepower. Unless you're running something over 550 horsepower that motorcycle will blow your doors off.

Well, it wouldn't have bothered me if he had. I don't expect to beat a bike. It's not so much about winning as having fun.

I'm surprised he didn't though. Most of those guys ride on the back wheel half the time. The very next day I tried to hang with a group of 4 through some twisties, and I did pretty good for about 20 miles until we came up on traffic. They started passing in no passing zones and I'm not that gutsy so I let them go on. Killing myself is one thing... My wife got a bunch of it on video but I don't know how to get it from VHS-C into my computer.

Um, mid-11 sec bike. Agree w/EBZO6.... I have no doub't I could run twisties better in the Z than my blade. Fear....

Just stay out of the splash zone if you engage such activity. You don't want to push a high side and get caught up in human flack. Could be a day wrecker.
