Joe Gaudette (SleeperZ06) gets rammed after race finish

Some of you remember Brad Neff (SubDriver) posting up his crash early summer 2006. Brad has his car back together and back from Phoenix. It was a long and costly journey for Brad.

Joe Gaudette was a rookie T1 driver last year. This year, at the Aug 18 - Pocono - SCCA race, he was taken into the tires AFTER the checkered flag by a T2 Cobalt

If you want to follow the discussion ...
Long tread on Joe Gaudette's unfortunate (lucky but costly) ending at Pocono ...

Some of the folks are trying to help Joe get back "on track" this year ... details here:

Re: Joe Gaudette (SleeperZ06) gets rammed after race finish

Wow, that was a hard hit, BUT.....if you stop the video at exactly 30 seconds, there is a spliced video clip in there of a RED MIATA and a background of a building and a pick up truck, which prior to the turn, that is NOT THERE. It is a wall. So, someone edited the video.... Not saying it never happened, but I don't get the video splicing stuff.

And when you do see the spliced edit, you can see only HALF the Miata, building, and pick up truck, and then the other video is HALF The track.

Glad everyone was ok.... The driver was like "WTF".....

Maybe the hit was hard enough to make the video jump if it was a Hard Disk Drive type recorder?

Does anyone else see the Miata???

yeah,i see half of a miata.the vid looks a little weird at that point in time.perhaps the hit messed with the camera.what was the miata driver doing driving right across the nose of the vette(sort of)?

If you pause the frame you will see the Miata is in a pit or paddock area. The hit must have messed up the recording and momentarily not recorded over previous tape material. Just a guess on my part.

I suspect that's the case. I believe I read on another forum that Joe was taping over a previous tape.

Glad to see Joe is unharmed and really hope he can get his car back in time to make the Runoffs again this year.

Denny,
Thanks for the post. FYI, while my car is essentially done, its still at Phoenix Performance. Haven't really worked out with them how I'll get it back, and not really too worried about it as I'm getting ready to deploy again. At this point I'm waiting for the SCCA to release the 2008 schedule so I can see if I can match up a few early season races (maybe FL, maybe the Southwest) with my post patrol standdown period. As I'm scheduled to roll back onto shore duty late next summer (two more patrols between now and then), I'd like to qualify for the Runoffs so that if my schedule works out, I can go next year.

Somewhere in the first 150 posts is an explanation of the video ... I think Brad (SubDriver) is on target, tho.
Pic of the hit at post # 97
First post of the Cobalt driver at post # 197.

Brad ... keep us posted on your plans ... I need an excuse to drive up to Phoenix!

Will do. Still not sure if I'll have Joe ship the car out here, or if I'll go get it when I get back from patrol.

I spoke with Joe Gaudette last weekend and given his budget constraints (similar to mine), he has decided to skip out of the Runoffs this year and use that money to help rebuild his car in preps for next season. Given the situation, he seemed in very good spirits and was looking forward to getting back on the track next year. Best of luck to him and hope I can race with him next year.

I just wish the video would have continued on to the point where Joe should have gotten out of the car and beat Guy with his helmet

Denny,

Thanks for posting this up, and thanks to all that have responded and are supportive! I've been off this board for a while but am back; and looking forward to it!

It's been a long few weeks but Rhonda and I are slowly figuring things out and will not be giving up anytime soon!

Stay tuned!

Joe
