Killed a Ford F-250 Harley Edition

well, got my first kill today.

A Ford F-250 Harley Davidson edition.

Kid was driving it, and was hopping at the light.

Who am I to say no?

The light turned green, and I smoothed it into 1st, and was breaking traction all the way. Just could not get it to hook up. (Definately cold tires). Short shifted into 2nd to get traction, hopped the car sideways and started pulling away strongly.

Hit the brakes a few later as I could no longer see him in my side passenger window as he was behind me somewhere. And it was getting a bit quick.

Anyway - got home and looked up the badge:

apparently the engine is either:

Available in either 6.0L Power Stroke® diesel engine or the 6.8L EFI Triton™ V10 engine
(V10 apparently 425ft/lbs of torque).
The 6.0 liter puts down 325 HP and 560 Torque(!)

Is it me, or are some of these trucks just beasts off the line?

Anyway - definate kill, and with me breaking traction like that I would have to say that I didn't even lay down my full run. The tires were cold from sitting, and I had just gotten into the car 3 minutes earlier.

There is an F250 version now??

That would make more sense to tow a bike trailer than the F150 on 20's

Yes, No more F150 Harley's

Two engine/transmission combinations are offered in the Super Duty. A 6.8-liter EFI Triton V-10 is backed by a four-speed automatic transmission and produces 310 hp at 4250 rpm and 425 lb-ft of torque at 3250 rpm. Also offered is a 6.0-liter Power Stroke Diesel V-8, matched to a five-speed automatic transmission that makes 325 hp at 3300 rpm and a massive 560 lb-ft of torque at 1600 rpm. An F-250 with the V-10 and 3.73:1 gears tows up to 11,200 lb; higher gears (4.10:1) raise capacity to 14,200 lb. Tow rating with the diesel engine is between 13,000 and 14,000 lb with both gear ratios. All H-D edition Super Duty trucks get towing kits as standard equipment. Hauling is also supported electronically via a driver-activated transmission mode that modifies the shift schedule, when needed. Only F-250 and F-350 SuperCab and Crew Cab 4x4s are available with the Harley-Davidson treatment, but both the short (6.75-foot) and long (8-foot) boxes can be ordered. Ford plans on building 8,000 '04 F-series Super Duty units with Harley stripes, down from the 12,000 F-150 SuperCrews built for 2003.

Torque alone doesn't mean anything. Torque is completely useless without the presence of power. To create power you need torque AND R.P.M.s.

I can use a huge breaker bar and produce 10,000 tq at the shaft (big breaker bar), but I can barely rotate that thing faster than one time per minute. Yes, I can move a CAT D11 bulldozer using my superior breaker bar, but I can only move it at 1 inch per hour. Why? because I am missing the R.P.M. part of my equation that gives me power.

If you have a motor with 100 hp and 600 tq at 600 RPM, well, that motor is exactly the same as a 100 hp motor and 6 tq at 60,000 RPM. Both produce the same amount of power and power is the amount of work (energy) it can be generated over time.

More torque can be achieved by choosing the correct gearing (the best example for this is the Ferrari 360 Modena, motor with limited torque, but the power rating is about the same as the Z06),

Power cannot be achieved by anytthing but a better motor and that is what really matters.

So, when I see those commercials about my Ford built tough and it has more available torque than the Chevy I just laugh my ass off.

One of the reasons why the Z06 is so AWESOME is (there are other reasons too ) because they choose the gearing very very wisely.

G.

Very true. They have chips for all these things that bring the hp way up. But they're fat pigs... no competition to us in Z's. They might give a Mustang GT a run for its money, though.

Well, a kill is a kill....I suppose.

I used to have fun with my Lightning, killing most cars on the road. But then again, it was fast. Harley's...no.

The guy in the Harley probably had fun with the Z. It probably made his day!

Im not trying to start anything here but a F-250 vs a Vette.

If it was me in the Ford I would ask for a rematch in the dirt.

Let's just say that the F-250 was faster than I expected.

Definately left it behind me, but it was a lot quicker off the line than I was expecting.
