I took my z to the track for the second time today. I have read that the 1st to 2nd shift should be at 6200 rpm. I am shifting at 6000 1st to 2nd (no powershift) and hitting the rev limiter hard! The car feels like it will shake itself apart. I noticed I am still getting alot of wheelspin on the 1st to second shift and the tach swings up to the rev limiter. I need some advice. I am running consistent 110's mph thru the 1/4. I know this issue is killing mph and et.
Should I shift sooner?
Is the tach lagging/slow?
Should the car shake violently when hitting the rev limiter?
If you are shifting at 6000 and hitting the limiter, you are shifting way to slow even if the tach needle is lagging behind the actual rpms. Practice shifting as fast as you can with the car in the garage or watch someone do it. Do not short shift (shifting sooner), it will only make you go slower. The car should not shake violently but will make an alarming sound and the power will be cut down. I would guess the car is fine and you just need some seat time. Practice alot and get tips from the fellas on here. Ask away!

Dr. Ron,
Why do you think my MPH is so low? Could it be hitting the rev limiter hard in second as I described above? I noticed that my 1/8 mile mph is only around 85mph. I think it has to be the rev limiter issue.
Your thoughts?

Hitting the limiter hard in 2nd and slow or short shifting will result in low mph. You'll get it.
Thanks guys. I plan on going to the track again this next weekend if the weather permits. If I get the shift light in time, it will be on the car. BTW....I do have a non-related question. Sometimes when I turn the car off, I hear a rattle from under the car. Sounds like the tranny. Any thoughts, one guy told me it was normal for 6spd cars.
Hitting the rev limiter would contribute, especially if you hit it long & hard. Also, short shifting &/or shifting slow like RobZ said would do it as well.
As far as the rattle at shut down, that's normal. Just shut down with the clutch depressed & it should go away...
