I realize that due to some belt slippage, my Z is not running any where near peak performance. That does not, however, make it easy prey for others.
On my way to the office this morning, a very new looking, white Ford Lightning decided he was feeling froggy, I guess.
He decided to try and whoop up on me on the Interstate at about 60 mph.
Count backwards from 5.........that's how long the race took. When I looked back over my shoulder, he was waaaaay back there....maybe 12 car lengths!!
Slowed down to give him another crack at me......he wasn't having any of it
Too bad.. I've always liked the Lightning too. (doesn't mean I'm gonna play dead for one of them though )

A Lightning in street form had better be REALLY modded to keep up with a bone stock Z06, much less Mike's beast.
These trucks are excellent 1/8 mile machines on slicks. But all these guys running 6-7psi of boost ABOVE stock are running race gas, converters, etc...and must use slicks to get them to run the great ETs you hear about.
A buddy of mine has a truck with a lot more mods than mine, and on slicks with race gas he ran 12.4 @ 110mph last weekend. That's a good time, no doubt, but on the street on radial tires, all that power isn't going to hook up.
However, mine is running high-12s now (haven't had it to the track to get a timeslip), and I'd be happy to run a near stock C5 Vette, especially a 6-speed version from 0-100mph. But from a roll on at 50mph+, forget it. The Lightning is "done" once it shifts into 3rd at ~85-90mph. Aerodynamics of a brick.

Don't seem to get many opportunities these days, Bill, except at the track. She's just too loud and scares off the natives
Wes, you're right. Those lightnings, on good rubber, do pretty well at the track. I've seen a couple of them do mid 12's before. I don't know what he was thinking trying to take me at a 60mph start. Maybe he just wasn't too familiar with the Z. (he is now )
That's a good ole' fashioned "half-tracking" as I like to call it...meaning you beat 'em by _half the track_.
There's a few Viper GTS owners who are still scratching their heads from a 300' whippin' my little old 'Stang gave 'em a couple of years ago. (10.8 vs. 12.1 is NOT a close race!!)

Wes, you're the master of understatement 10.8 vs 12.1 is not only not close, it is a royal buttwhoopin'
(but I'm sure you gave them a nice smile to go along with it )

You da man
Well, I've been hanging around "kids" too long. Things being said like, "well you only beat him by just over a second." Then when you explain that at 135mph, 1 second = 198'/sec, people wake up a little bit.
I'm like yeah, I beat the guy by almost a football field and was pulling away very, very hard.
1.3 seconds isn't a big difference if you're racing two 18 second mini-vans, but at the power level of the cars on this board, it could be 15-20 car lengths. Just like that Lightning you smoked, who became a tiny blur by the count of 5.
