?more power=slower at track

Its possible to add power more to your car and make it slower at the dragstrip. I had seen many corvette and other cars with more hp than a bolt on Z06 and running slower or equal times.
My question is because Iam planing on buying a used Z06 and wont have much money left for a strocker or SC and actually make it slower. What do you think.

I've seen it may times that car's with well over 100 more HP than my bolt on Z can't do much better than .2 to .3 quicker than my 12.2 the same day. This is especially true with cars on street tires.

I found that much more power than a stock Z06 requires a high level of driver skill to meticulously feather the throttle in the first 3 gears, which is most of your quarter.

All the power in the world is useless unless you can put it down to the ground. This is where 400 + RWHP car's have their difficulty.

I was wondering the same thing as I read the Supercar Challenge from Car & Driver. The 2004 Lingenfelter 427 Twin Turbo Corvette only ran a 4.1 second 0-60 with 800 horsepower and 830 pound-feet of torque! Of course, the tires were the determining factor, at least at lower speeds.

I’m not an expert at drag racing, but it makes sense that your tires have to keep up with the power output. No traction = slower time.

800+ RWHP & Torque is useless on street tires.
You need at least a E/T street to have any resemblence of traction from 2nd gear and up. I'd suspect even D/R's are not up to the task.

You might as well be driving on ice with that kind of power on street tires.

Put on E/T Streets on that TT Vette, and sub 2 sec 0-60's would be common.
