Today was the dawn to a new era. At approximatley 0600 hours, I woke to get ready for my first experience at the track. (1/4 Mile times). We arrived about 8:50 am to Southwestern International Raceway (SIR), Tucson, AZ. First launch was just about 10:00 am. Barometer was 28.70 if that means anything. To keep this simple, I broke down worst and best times. Remember, THIS IS MY VERY FIRST VISIT ON A TRACK. EVER! I was nervous.....But in the end it was awesome!
Worst R/T = .527
Best R/T = .014 (No Shyt! And this was my 4th launch)
Worst 60' = 2.33
Best 60' = 2.009
Worst 1/4 Mile = 13.995 (My first launch at 10:26 am)
Best 1/4 Mile = 13.373 (My 6th and last launch)
Of 6 passes, I lost one race. (To a sooped up Firebird that nearly rattled some teeth out of my head at the staging line) What a total BS line-up) 5 Kills though to include a Z06! So, my stock C5 isn't THAT bad.....
Some embarrasing moments.....
When I raced the Z06, I got nervous and pulled a RED LIGHT launch. R/T was a -1.156. But, I still beat him by 1/4 Mile times and top speeds.
Mine: 13.474 @ 107.99
His: 13.773 @ 105.44
Worst embarrasing moment was passing the tree at staging and thinking I was still "good". Yeah.....Someone came out to ground guide me back to the starting line. Hahahahahaha When I threw it in reverse, my most embarrasing moment got worse.....I grinded the gears. Nice huh? Oh well. So, in the end, I had a blast. Made some new friends. And now I know how well I do at the green light. If anyone has an idea if these numbers are acceptable or better yet.....RESPECTABLE for stock, please tell me. Or....tell me what I SHOULD be seeing. Thanks and I hope you enjoyed my story as much as I enjoyed my day! G
Edited 17 January 2004. Added in my dyno sheet. What do you think? And keep in mind, the ONLY mods I have are Vortex Ram Air and that Cyclops looking single out exhaust. Are these good numbers? Good top speed?

You have an FRC so you have the quickest of all C5s. Anything from 13.5-12.9 is respectable and i see you hit one 13.3 which is a good time for a first timer! keep the mods coming!
Awesome. Just keep practicing, bro, and those time are gonna plumet. A lot of inexperienced drivers start out in 13s or high 12s so there's absolutely no shame in that. As far as the embarassing moments, well...... you should've requested this: Drag Racing Guide Link

I had a BLAST! I just wish I had some videos taken of my runs. I am trying to remember the cars I raced. One was a 2002/2003 JAG with 150 shot of nitrous. TOAST! Another was a Mustang. About a 1987. SMOKED! And the only other car I can remember was the Z06. In time, he will get me. He kept complaining about "I am just spinning my tires" And then, I had to school th eyoung grasshoppa. He didn't know about "competitive driving" mode. So now.....He knows. But. we'll meet again. Just wanted to share the fun times with all of you. I'll post a few pics sson. Thanks again! Now, once I get my headers and bullets, you think I should do a little better? Maybe break into 12?
Numbers aren't so bad for a first timer... but I got you beat
My first trip ever to a drag strip, I got a 13.3 @ 109 in my bone stock WS6. (The 109 was high, there's no way the beams were quite calibrated right)...
Now after $3K worth of mods - bolts-ons, tuning, and tires, I've only knocked 2 tenths off that time . I should be well into the 12s, hopefully this summer I will be.

Not bad runs at all man... wanna race?
Sure! Since we are thousands of miles apart, I say we can race to someplace in between. Meet up for lunch. Find a nice deserted road and smoke em! Call it a day....then drive thousands of miles back think....."What a great lunch!" I have some Supermax headers and B & B Bullets on the way. I am still debating the Supercharger or Heads/Cam route. If I go H/C, I will most likely opt for the Vararam as well. My buddy has a WS6 and he antagonizes me all the time. And believe it or not, we never really raced yet. I think teh WS6 has more torque, but I may be wrong. Well, I did make some good improvements at the track first time out. I think it was the Virgin nerves that got the best of me. Luckily I was held back twice on a run so others could race. Good thing. A Grand Prix GT lost control and went into the left lane, sideswiping that car and making that car spin into the wall. Damn amateurs.....Everyone was ok...But I am sure there are two upset drivers with wrecked cars.....
ps.....$3K for 2 tenths? Amazing! Just think what $15K would have done..... A whole second! Hahahahahaha
We arrived about 8:50 am to Southwestern International Raceway (SIR), Tucson, AZ.
something for everyone to remember is the Tucson track is probably 2000ft + in elevation...so pretty good times...if anyone knows exactly the elevation there are formulas for backing out times i.e. normalizing to sea level
