I've been purusing a local website for some time now. Had all my parts picked out. Going to the track this weekend for the first time. Wanted to throw on racing tires, grab a helmet, and maybe even a harness bar kit this week. Easy bolt on stuff for track day.
Nothing was in stock. The tires on the site are not available. I still buy stuff there and the guys are great, but I just couldn't justify shreading my street tires at the track, so I was depending on them having the tires that have been advertised on their site for ever.
Any one know where to get race stuff for vettes, for real (in stock)?
don't be in such a hurry...
just my opinion.. enjoy it.. and learn.. just
GET A GOOD HELMET..
I wasn't in a hurry. Went to the track last month and left the car in the pkg lot. Hadn't finished tuning yet. Talk about patience.
Been building the car for a long time. Had no idea stopping by a race shop for a set of track tires was going to be a pipe dream. I've even talked to them in recent months about pricing. The day I decide to go in and pick them up is the day I'm told the don't reallllly sell them.
I just want to save my street tires (which are mounted on seperate set of chrome rims), so I was going to put some racing tires on my stocker rims and simply swap wheels on track days.
I'm pretty much commited to going this weekend.
(they didn't have the helmet in stock either. Uhg)
Yes, ya got me. I am new to tracking. I know better than to depend on parts at last minute. I had been talking to the vendor about pricing and nothing was mentioned about the tires being discontinued. I wasn't worried about picking them up this week.
relax and have fun on street tires if this is your first time out, the last thing you want to be doing is trying to go fast
oh and bying car stuff ina hurry is a bad idea... ask me how I know
I figured if I was gonna screech around some corner on purpose, I didn't want to replace my street tires already. I already replace them too fast as it is.
I must have 20 tires in my garage, about half of them new and half of them fresh scrubs with only about 3-4 driving sessions.
Most of them are 305 or 335 Hoosiers for 18" wheels. I have a number of 335x17" also.
These tires are Hoosier RS, AS and VRL flavors with one set of 315x17 Kuhmo v710s.
For stock wheels, Hoosier 305x18s are a good option for the rear. I dont have any 275 to 305 tires that would fit a 17" front OEM wheel as I recall. I will need to check.
Anyway, if you want good track tires in a hurry, I can likely accomodate.
Are you going Saturday, Sunday, or both? I'm kinda stuck with Saturday. My sister and my oldest daughter are both coming home for college break and I'm blending back into the family gig by dinner Saturday. Don't think I'm going to be able to swing a Sunday this week. (Unless two educated young girls say, hey dad/bro, can we go stand in the hot sun with lots of noisy race cars and hang out? Those phd finals make me wanna sniff race gas! )
I didn't stay to the end last visit to WS, what time does it wrap up on average?
I believe I saw some video of you/you're ride. Very nice. I could probably learn alot from you. Any local place to get a helmet/gloves off the shelf? Also still looking for a harness bar kit. I'm gonna look online this morning.
