Need some Drag Slick advice

I am trying to get some Drag slicks mounted under my car. I got the 427TT setup with boost controller etc and now am trying to figure out what I can do about getting some REAL slicks not ET Streets or Nittos on the car.

The car has been mini tubbed, so there is some room for clearance. The problem is this, I can't seem to find anyone that makes a slick for a 16" rim that isn't 33" tall. Someone out there has to have a solution for getting real slicks on a Z with some serious horsepower.

Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

Check Mickey Thompson (you probably already have). I thought they were making an ET Drag tire for a 16" wheel. Probably something like a 26x10x16. You will probably not find anything wider than 10" in something this short (26 or 28" tall).

If you have never run the ET Streets, then you may want to reconsider them. They are _very_ close to the ET Drag tire in both sidewall construction and tread compound. They have some tiny, narrow grooves cut in them to make them DOT legal, but they are not street worthy at all, IMHO (I've run them on another car). The difference in track times b/w the two tires will be negligible for most drivers...we're talking .1-.2 difference.

Good luck!

Your right, Wes.
Hell after a few burnoffs and races, the groove is pretty much gone and you can't tell M/T ET Streets from M/T ET Drags anyway. The rubber compound is almost identical.

Punish, the other thing you might want to consider with your setup is just how much traction you really want with that bad boy. Unless your like Brent and have an unlimited supply of new halfshafts for free from a local tuner, launching the kind of power you have at high rpm's with great traction is gonna get real expensive, even with hardened shafts.
With your type of tq and hp, you just can't expect the type of consistant hard launches you'd like unless you go to an auto tranny or solid rear end or you're prepared to go through a number of halfshafts and possibly main shafts and clutch plates.

Something to think about.............

Mike

Absolutely,

Basically I told John at 21st that if it snaps 2 things in the drivetrain within 60 days, I want to switch it over to Automatic/solid rear end. I am spending all the money on the right parts, so we will see what happens. I decided to go with Hoosier, who makes a slick in a 16 inch size. Cross your fingers, we will see what happens.

Bro, keep us informed on how those Hoosiers work out for ya. We're all looking for a better mousetrap when it comes to traction and I'm curious if the Hoosiers will be a good option for us.

I really wish I could. I think that would be a blast. Unfortunately, I will be in Aruba from the 21st - 28th so all I can do is read about it.
Somebody take some pics and vid's will ya!!!

MCRacing is trying to get my Z ready for some type of a 'pump gas only' national competion in Nashville in May, so maybe I'll get a chance to see and compete against the same guys from the tuner shootout.

That is probably the Hot Rod Pump Gas Drags. I did not see your name on the list of 50 at hotrod.com message boards.

I only saw three Vettes on the list.

Don't know much about it Redgar. They simply asked me if we get everything done in time if I would take her out there and race.
Is it limited to only 50 cars?

Mike

I'll have to ask the MCRacing guys about it. Sounds like I'm screwed on this
