New 1/4 Mile Times

Went racing with the SVT Cobra Club at Carolina Dragway on Saturday. This track has a rep for hooking great but lower MPH (it is actually a bit uphill).

On the good news front I managed to shave a few tenths off my previous best (and did it many times). I still have not perfected the launch but got better and more consistent there as well. Wheel hop was not in play at all - I had more problems with wheel spin even with tire pressure at 24 PSI.

Best 60' 1.94
Best E/T 12.62
Best MPH 113.8

I had a handful of 12.6 runs so I was pleased with this progress.

The car still has only 3500 miles on it so I expect it will continue to improve (as well as the driver)

Les, Sounds like your enjoying geting to know your car!! Mods will only help when YOU can tame the tiger, till then my opinion is it's a waste, unless it's for looks or just something to blow some cash on. Ric

Ric,

I agree completely that all the power in the world isn't any good if you can't use it! I am getting used to launching the car, takes a lot more care than my "race car". I still find your times incredible and well ahead of most if not all of the rest of us!

Speaking of mods, I promised to publish the results of the B&B shortie header's and MAFT install. First the easy part - the headers were worth zero RWHP, so other than some weight savings this was not a worthwhile mod IMO and I suggest others wait until a proven set (probably long tubes) comes along. Interestingly the car was running suddenly very lean, 13.3 WOT. We used the MAFT to put more fuel in (12.8) and I gained a few RWHP and the fuel curve looks perfect now. I recommend the MAFT until a suitable alternative is available. Partial throttle fuel was perfect so no changes made there.

Also we scanned the car during the dyno and my tuner calculated the Fuel injector utilization and he tells me I am fine until I get over 400 RWHP so I plan to stay with stock injectors.

Just my .02

Les

Les, Ric is absolutely right! Learn before mods! I think I'm down to 12.38@113.50. And I still can't figure out what the right rpm is to launch. When I launched at 2,000 the tires spun so much, I had to either shift into second just past the tree or let off (Let off? Hell No!! ) so I shifted into second. Did a 12.99 that run. All I run is a K&N filter with a cut open hole in the air lid.

MSiska, There is no right rpm it changes with track conditions and driver techneque. So you have to figuer out what's right every time at the track!! That's the challenge of launching this car on the stock tire! If you go to a higher traction tire that window is wider with a drag radial and even easyer with an Et Street. Ric
