Had great time at Vintage Thunder at Cecil Co. Dragway today. All Corvettes (couple of other cars) racing. Weather was fair. Redgar had a TAG weather station which said the DA was 1650 to 1750 feet. My best ET until today was 12.05 which I had run twice.
One change since then is a Breathless Vortex cold air box and air bridge. I had this put on at the Cruise In on Saturday morning. I have also been getting better at launching following the example of Ranger and Wild Horzes who both regularly get low 1.7 60fts.
First pass today was 11.995 at 117.46 with a 1.838 60ft. OMG, my first run in the 11’s (barely, I know, but it does start with 11).
Next pass, 11.797 at 117.54. It left me speechless.
Here is the breakdown.
60ft 1.785
330 ft 4.954
1/8 7.598
mph 93.45
1000 ft 9.874
¼ 11.797
mph 117.54
From there the runs were as follows:
12.125 at 116.98 (this was a strange run. I will make a separate post)
11.902 at 117.51
12.051 at 117.47
11.981 at 117.25
11.863 at 117.01 (see breakdown below)
11.989 at 117.02
Today is the first time I have been below 5.0 for 330ft and below 10.0 for 1000ft.
My mods are – Breathless Vortex cold air box, air bridge, & coupler. Hurst shifter. Switch to turn on slow radiator fan. BFG drag radials.
Absolutely nothing else. Car has about 3600 miles on it, now.
There was a portable DynoJet Dyno there and Ranger twisted my arm to do three runs. The best was 357.6 RWHP and 348.2 RWTQ, SAE corrected.
What a blast! The car felt really strong today. When I launched, the back end would squat and the front would lift and it would stay that way all the way down the track. GM is building a monster. It is one helluva car!

I believe this is the best string of runs any Z06 with just an intake and DR has posted on the same day. And done in air that was not particularly favorable. Great, job!
Oh boys... this is MORE than just impressive. I don't think I've seen anyone post runnings 11's all day, let alone a 11.79. Usually, you have to spend a few months getting an 11 here or there. These were 11's all day. C'mom - a stock Z running an 11.79 on DR's. I think this is un F'in believable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I saw it!
Tom,
what is the cost of the Vortex, with Air bridge???
Ain't CHEEP is it?
Also, do you think the Air Bridge is in any way HELPFUL, over a Stock Bridge????????.......

I did witness a 3rwhp gain when expermenting on my '01 but I got the same gain with my stock air bridge when I put an oval (made to fit) sleeve in the accordian shaped connector that attaches the air bridge to the TB.
I personally believe that the stock air bridge moves more than enough air to acommadate the LS1-LS6s, it's the uneven air caused by the connector.
Ric, traction is usually pretty good at Cecil Co. and yesterday was no exception. I was thinking about you after I made that run. I figured that you were probably enjoying the same or better air and would post an even better time. How do you like the new intake?
Ernie, I'd like to point out that you beat me and won our class. Not exactly a slacker!!
Steve, I like the new intake allot. I wish I could tell you I ran close to your times on sat but in the 7 1/2 hours I spent at the track I only had two runs because they over booked with camaro races, central mass club, quick street and junior dragsters and more breakage than I have seen in a long time. I ran 11.965 and 11.967 60' were 1.831 and 1.831. I was pleased. Hopefully after they do the grind on our track(june 16) I will be able to launch like you do!! Ric
