Our club and Tony's Corvette Shop hosted All Corvette Day at Capitol Raceway in Crofton, Maryland today. And it was an excellent event. Track was in better shape than usual.
I ran a new best after installing yesterday the Halltech Tric that I had run on my 2001 Z06.
My string was 11.909, 11.940, 11.860, and 11.823. Traps were in the 117+. Density altitude measured (by Redgar's weather station...thanks again Redgar) 2200-2400 feet.
Good run's Ranger. Maybe you and Steve can make it up to the Vette-Viper shoot out Oct 13, at New England Dragway? We can use all the help we can get!! Ric
Great runs Ranger - you planning on racing at Z06Fest?

John, just AWESOME runs!! The TRIC just helped you nail those consistent 11.8's-11.9's. Congrat's! It was a fun, fantastic event with a lot of Z06's!! Rosso Z, Panzer, Bob Hardt, Jason Graves(One BadAss 01QS Z06!), Redgar, it was really great to have you guys there. Jason went deep in the eliminations of the bracket racing. I got eliminated by .002 by fellow Forum member and friend Eric Wong. Eric was eliminated by Jason! All in all a Great Day!!
Thanks folks for the kind words. I'll answer the specific questions later today. But let me start here.
I was asked by phone what were the ingredients of this string of fast runs.
First, I was on 315.35.17 BFG drag radials and I managed to properly heat them. My 60' were all in the low-mid 1.7s.
Second, the track was reasonably sticky. Much better than this track usually is. temperature was in the high 80s to low 90s and there was full sun. Track surface temperature was 115-120 (measured with a laser temp probe). This is crucial not only for the launch but also for holding the shifts to 2d and 3d.
Third, all the runs were clean; I stayed off the rev-limiter, but shifted near it.
Fourth, I shifted quickly but eased the throttle slightly on the shifts to 2d and 3d. Had to do that because the traction after the 60' mark was not as good. I power-shifted to 4th.
Fifth, I installed the Halltech Tric (off my 01) bottom breather. This let the engine draw cooler air than is available under the hood. As many of you know, the PCM reduces timing as the air inlet temperature rises. It is done in a series of steps. So drawing in the outside air minimizes the loss of timing on a warm day. This was my first time out with the Tric on the 02.
My objectives for the rest of the year are:
1. to get the car (as it is) into the 11.6s.
2. to revert to bone-stock and break into the 11.9s
3. to revert to bone-stock plus drag radials and break into the 11.8s
Don't know if I'll achieve any of these, but those are the goals.
There is only one IHRA track in my area, Maryland International Raceway, in Budds Creek/Mechanicsville, Maryland. They do a good track prep normally and there are three more dates this year.
