I have heard about this. On the bright side with the speed of goverment red tape, we may all be to old to race
As far as a lot of the race tires, I think we all have gotten away with this for a time. Should the Hoosier ( I pick Hoosier because it is what I use ) be considered a "D.O.T." tire? Whould you feel safe on the HWY if you knew the car passing you in the rain storm had Hoosiers half worn AutoX tires? The race tires have gotten away with having the minimal requirments for a used tire. You buy them new with minimal tread for an old tire. After a few runs, they are no longer legal for the street. I know this will never happen but it would be great for street car to run on street tires. This does not apply to Corvettes and other sports cars but there are some cars that are roll over dangerous on rubber that sticky. In theory it would be cheaper for new guys if all had real street tires. I see now that the "street guys are all racing on a special tire( I think its made by Falcon?? ). So much for the simplicity of running on your street tires.
I will be in a real fix. I run BP with radial slicks on the back and D.O.T Hoosiers on the back.
