Nitto R2 or Toyo RA1's..

They both have a 275/40/17 and 305/35/18 tire that will our stcok rim. I figured has to be worth a good 1-2 seconds over stock tires minimum.
Anyone have experience with both and no what they should pick up on a 2 minute lap course like VIR.

Anyone??
My guess is to go with the Toyo's as closer to true r compund based on treadwear.

Toyo's or RII's

My understanding is the tire is the same, cept for the tread design. Same carcass, same tread compound. I have the Toyo RA-1's, and I really like them, but they are really stiff. Probably should have went with the Nitto Drag Radials.

But, the Toyo's are tons stickier than stock or any other street tire.

I always ran shaved Toyo's.
How do they work with full tread since I will be driving on them full time. Need to be prepared in case in ever rains at DE.

I run the RA1's, haven't tried the Nittos, but I do like the RA1s. I didn't shave 'em, drove them on weekends on street, and to/from track and in HPDEs. They lasted 8 DE days, plus those weekends, and to/from. Didn't shave for longer life....

On a typical 2 mile course they should be good for 2 to 3 seconds.

Thanks.
I will likely do Toyo's and not shave. The key is did you wear the outsides out first and have middle tread 99 cobra??

Or was it even wear across with the driving on the street to track balancing it out (and only so much alignment you can do then)?

Yes the outside edge wears, even with max neg camber. What tends to happen is left tires wear (given road courses) tend to have more right turns. What you can do is rotate side to side, and even though tires are theoretically directional, it doesn't matter much when there's not much tread, and when it's not raining.

You'll like 'em especially versus stock.

Toyos are great, shaved or not. I love them. Just be careful not to get too big of a delta between front and rear widths. Reluctantly, I bought some used World Challenge tires in 275 (front) and 335 (rear) from Frisby and was not happy with the incredible amount of understeer I was getting with a stock suspension set up for -1.8 deg. camber in front and -1.4 deg. in back. The delta between front and rear for a non-adjustable suspension like mine should be no more than about 10% IMO.

If I did this all over again, I'd just buy brand new 305 front and 335 rear RA1 and break them in myself. They are incredible, even in the rain (when they have tread left) and will last forever. Plus you can drive to and from the track on them if you need to.

As I mentioned, I currently have 275/335. But, I have run 305/335 on the same wheels. They are CCW track wheels in 18x11 and 18x12.

I think the 275/40/17 and 305/35/18 on the stock rims Ra1's is what I will go with as cheap improvement without having to buy another set of rims.
Thanks all
