BRASELTON, GA -- The sixth annual Petit Le Mans is shaping up like a heavyweight title fight with 394 rounds to determine one of the most prestigious and hard-fought titles — the GTS manufacturers battle.
While Corvette factory drivers Johnny O‚Connell and Ron Fellows co-clinched the driver‚s title with a fourth-place finish at Miami, the fact that Ferrari swept the podium tightened up the manufacturer‚s battle significantly. Corvette, which won first five races of the season, now leads Ferrari by just eight points heading into Petit Le Mans. Ferrari has won three straight American Le Mans Series races.
And if the Corvette vs. Ferrari battle isn‚t enough to get you excited, then consider the return of BMW to the GT class battle with legendary Hans Stuck at the wheel of new the BMW E46! Stuck won the GT title at Petit in 2001, the last year BMW ran Petit.
Toss in another 40+ sports cars and you‚ve make the makings of a terrific Petit Le Mans — 1000 miles (394 laps), starting at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 18th.
