Hey, I was looking at the MTI True Ram Air Intake... was thinking about getting that. I like it because it's reversible. Has anyone had that? I've been told it's a pretty good one. Your opinions, please?
I'm running a Cyclone. Really breathes at high RPMs. I can't wait to see how it runs with my mega cam

The T1 class is a stock based class, so the cars really are nearly stock.
The SCCA T1 rules require:
- Eight point roll cage with dual NASCAR door bars
- Racing seat
- Racing harness
- Fire Extinguisher
- Window net
- Disabling Air bags
The SCCA T1 rules allow:
- GM Motorsports T1 suspension parts (stiffer leaf springs, anti-sway bars, Sachs Shocks, stiffer rubber in front a-arms, camber plates)
- oil cooler (GM part number translates to 5 inch 19 row 12AN cooler mounted in the nose with pickup point at oil temp sensor)
- tranny cooler (GM kit only)
- accusump
- AC system removal
- radio removal
- air bag removal
- side window removal
- muffler removal and replacement with straight through pipe
- DRM brake ducts
- DRM heavy duty radiator
- 17x10 front and 17x11 wheels
- DOT compound tires
- steering wheel replacement
- stainless steel brake lines
- any brake pads
Mine has all of the above with the exception of my side windows are still functional.
What does your car weigh? I think I'd be more competitive (in time trials, anyway) with some of that done, although I plan a pretty big cam next month. I have probably ADDED over 100lbs of weight to the Z06 (I know, stop laughing at me). I hope to be sub 2:10 on VIR Full come next month, but we'll see. That is as is with Hoosiers. I hear the T1 record is around 2:06, so it may not be possible for a non racer like me to go that fast especially with all that weight, but we'll see.
I have the old Halltech CF T1. Its not going anywhere. If I was to get another I would get the vararam or the new halltech setup w/ the plate cut out.
Redshift, What kind of times did you run the last time at VIR? 2:10 would be pretty damm fast there. I have ran a 2:21 my only w/e there. TimZ06 ran a 2:17. Both of us where on street tires, F1s for me and Kuhmo MX for him. Both of us are under 360 at the rear wheels.
I think the last time was right around 2:17-2:19 or so. I didn't run time trials because that event didn't have any. I'm probably at around 375rwhp, but with over 100lb of extra weight. This was on 255 (front) and 275 (rear) RA1 tires, so they were stickier than F1SC but skinnier as well. With Hoosiers (275 front and 305 rear) I should be quite a bit faster. Of course, due to my accident, I've not been on track in a while, so I might be a bit rusty
Brian,
For 2003, the T1 rule was 3100# without driver at the end of the race. My car weighs 3103 with no fuel, but obviously does include the 160# or so of roll cage.
For 2004, the T1 rule is now 3280# with driver at the end of the race. As I weigh less than 180#, I'm not sure what I'm going to do...
- add a radio system
- add a cool suit system
- carry a little extra fuel
- put some ballast in
- put some speakers back in
- hit the gym and start pounding the weights
- eat lots of french fries and potato chips
I think most people who are running fast will agree that the car is fast enough in stock form and you are better off spending your money to get more track time learning to be faster. When you become fast things like cooling down the oil, cooling down the transmission, cooling down the differential, and cooling down the brake rotors take priory. They have for me.
