Good point!!!
Leave you egos at the grid as there are going to be with folks in Spec Miatas that will blow by you, because they know the track and know their cars.
A word of advice for new timers just because you have an awesome car does not mean you know how to take it to the limits. That is why people do DE's to learn to take the car to its limits.
First thing you need to ask yourself is what is the line of the course? For example ask yourself can take the "bitch" at full throttle in 3rd. You should be able to with no problem. If you don't know what I am talking about go out with someone with experience and they will show you the line, turn in, baking zones, etc.
My first experience at Hallet I when out with someone who knew the track and I was running in the race group. After two sessions I was running some fast times.
For the first session on my second lap, right after the "bitch", I went off the track. I figured that I was no going to make it, so rather then trying to save it I went straight off and zero damage to the car. I got right back on the track and off I went. This was a result of experience from other tracks. At the end of the day full throttle in third. What was interesting I when out with a fellow who raced for Alfa in the late 70's. He was impressed how I handled the car in the "off" situtation.
I watch others in the less experince groups try to save it after the "bitch" and they did damage to thier cars hitting the tire walls.
Just remember experience is a teacher and to have experience you need seat time. Never seen anybody who has never been to a track before set track lap times. It just does not happen. I would think everyone would agree a Brain Surgeon its one going to do his first operation fresh out of medical school. Driving fast on a race track is not a God given talent. The patient to practice is the God given talent.
There is nothing more exciting then knowing the course and blowing by everyone who have taken their egos with them out to the track.
Instruction and seat time, and seat time, and seat time is the way to become fast.
Experience folks who have never run this track, come with a new set of brake pads and rotors cause you are going to use them.
