Proper helmet fit

Hi Everyone,

How do I know if a closed-face helmet fits me properly? Is it supposed to squeeze the sides of my face and cheeks?

TIA,
Tom

Info from Snell, the helmet rating folks:

Size: Try on several different helmets before you purchase one. The best way to gauge comfort level and fit is through comparison. The helmet should fit comfortably all the way around your head. Additional pads can be used to make it snug.
Strap: Pay attention to the chin strap. Make sure that the chin strap fits around your ear and under your chin snugly and comfortably. The helmet should not shift on your head.
Straight: Know how a helmet should fit. A helmet is meant to be worn low on the forehead, just above your eyebrows. Look into a mirror or have a friend/parent help you determine the proper fit.
Sticker: Look for Snell certification. Snell Standards are the most stringent in the world, exceeding those set by the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Need to know which helmet is Snell certified? Browse through our helmet certification lists.

Anecdotal experience

I didn't know anything about helmet fit when I bought mine. I wanted good peripheral vision in a closed-face helmet. I tried on several helmets. The one I bought fits snugly, but not tightly.
Meaning: The helmet does not move on my head ... when I use my hands and try to turn the helmet on my head, my head moves with it. However, after wearing it for 30 minutes or more, there are no noticeable pressure points experienced. I consider that a proper fit. FWIW ...

That is OK. Please make us laugh. But we probably won't notice when we should laugh. At least in my case I am usually too busy laughing at myself to notice all the other silly things happening around me.

once you secure the chin strap, you shouldn't be able to pull it off your head
