Quarter mile quesion

Hello, I just found this site, its nice! I have recently gotten into racing my 04 Z06 supercharged vette and have found that alot of people dont like to answer questions but you guys seem alot more cool about questions so here i go:

First off, Im new at racing and dont know too much about it all.

I have an 04 Z06 with a pro charger that is pushing 578 Horespower at the flywheel and 480lbs torque. Besides the blower, its stock. I took it to the track yesterday to see what it could do, I got 12.19 in the quarter at 113mph. I know that at chevys site it says stock Z06 will do 12.4, and I know I am not launching correctly. I am waiting till green light and then just giving it gas. I was wondering if anyone can give me some advise on what would be a good RPM to take off at? Also, do you think that with practice I can get into the 11's? Thanks for the info!

Z06 Launch Techniques

This is filled with great info on launching the vette. I myself have never done it but I would assume it is factual.

Thanks for the response and welcome!

I bought the procharger through west coast corvette and had them do the install also.

I am glad that I found this site, there seems to be alot of nice people who know ALOT about the Z06!

Thanks capn37! I read the whole thing, right after i Posted the question. The only thing I was concerned about was most was reffering to stock Z06, which I no longer have. I guess the best way to find out is to test it out.

Regarding power shifting, should I wait to try this out until I have had alot more runs or do you think it would be 'safe' for me to test it out say in 3rd and 4th gear being that I have only a few runs under my belt?

Yeah I can imagine all the extra power complicates things. Im sure that the other guys with similar set ups will chime in tomorrow or monday. Lots of guys on here who know loads of stuff. Good luck.

Which track? If it was LACR, it is a VERY slow track, and you would subtract 0.4-0.5 seconds to equal sea level times.

Nate,
Here's a few tips....

Rear tire pressure to 18psi
Everything out of the car you can get out.
1/2 tank of gas (well maybe more to give you more traction!)
Are you doing a burnout prior to your run?
Run in competition mode WITH active handling on and traction control off. (probably know this but well worth repeating after seeing two Z06s hit the wall)
Many will probably tell you to get some drag radials. All I can say to that is my car is a daily driver and tires are a cheap weak link. I'd rather spin my tires any day than break something with the tranny or an output shaft.

Keep us updated on your runs. My best was 12.4 before my cam upgrade, having gone to the track only twice. Hoping to improve next week when I run with some Vipers at Heartland Park.

No burnout, I know from street driving that if I take off in my car, I will burnout all of first and alot of 2nd, so at the track I just waited until green light and went. Maybe I will try taking off around 2500 RPM instead of idle.

You'll need better tires tires to get some of that power to the ground. That's the limiting factor that will determine what rpms to launch at. On street tires you probably can't come out over 2000 and will likely have to short shift down the track. 11's are no problem but I would be concerned about keeping it straight on the F1's. Take it easy until you get better shoes.
