I was looking to get a peak at some of the quickest Zs around here with a cam + bolt ons.
If you could list your mods, ET, and 60' that would be great.
Planning on which cam to install in my Dad's vette.
Thanks.
Kyle

I was just wondering if you install your own mods or have a shop here in Charlotte? I went to Carolina Performance today on South Blvd, and they want about $2800 for a full exhaust system with the install. It sounds high to me. I wish I could find a Corvette shop here in Charlotte.
Is he the quickest? His sign. says he has head/cam however. I was mainly looking for a stock headed combo + an aftermarket cam.
I'm not looking for the 'quickest' due to weight reduction, suspension mods exc... I'm just trying to narrow down what sorta cam will work best and still be fairly drivable. Drivability however not being the key part of the topic.
Wanting to see what you guys are using and what kinda ET you are knocking down.

Here's the story.
My car has been in the tens 'cam only' about 10 times.
3x cam only,VR,headers,EWP,90/90,4.10 gears
10.9x's@126.9x (with 433 rwhp and 389rwtq)
With the last setup I struggled with an ailing tranny for the fall months keeping me out of the 10.8x and maybe even high 10.7x's. My 3-4 synchro was shot.
Here's a run that I got locked out of 4th that had 10.8'x written all over it.
1.42
4.40
7.05 @87mph (no 4th and decellerating)
9.7
12.4@79mph
10's can be had with good air cam only especially with the big cams out now, but it's not easy. (The cartek 2x cam I had was a 224 228 580's lift on a 113 I believe.) The key is alot of practice and getting a great launch. Gears should help your 60 ft but I don't think are necessary to crack into 10's with the power that some of these cars are putting out today.
All runs were done on et streets. I believe I have some 11.0x timeslips with drag radials as well but never managed 10's on dr due to lack of time on them. Now the newer drag radials are better so it is possible.
No suspension mods at all are needed. Now my car is lowered now but I ran just as well on stock ride height from factory. I also have the 04 Zo6 shocks that didn't seem to make any difference on the straight track.
All setup were perfectly streetable. The 2x cam only was just like stock. The 3x cam is also very streetable and not that big compared to todays standards. Only issues I had with driveability with the last setup was getting the old 90mm style tb tuned. Goodluck in your decision and plan on alot of seat time.

Thanks Rob. It doesn't look like a big cam (relative to internet controversy) is necessary.
Anybody else have any data? Feel free to chime in.
Yes,
This is true, companies like Cartek, Synergy, MTI have produce awesome dyno results, drivibilty and track results off of moderate well designed cams. (430-440 rwhp cam only and flat torque band)
There some vendors that want to sell on bigger is better or go solid roller. They are into producing peaky dyno results at super high rpm. You either see these cars back in the shop for repairs or for sale quickly. Perpetual money machine. Unless you have a track only car, I would not use these. Then buy a dedicated track car, not a Zee.
So in theory I should be good for at least 123mph in the qtr even if I can't totally hook it up?
Yes! My trap speeds with 420-433rwhp ranged from 122 mph-127mph. (From dead of summer to crisp fall air.) On street tires your et will suffer quite a bit but mph won't suffer as much due to increased wheelspin adding a false high mph. You have to wind out the gears to achieve these mph's. Short shifting will reduce your mph significantly.
Hmmm, I'd of thought that a 3000LB car w/ a much more narrow powerband could use a bit more umph in the upper end.
My truck with a 2800-rpm stall, 3.73 gears... All I care about is the torque curve (2000-4000) and inreturn, getting off the line as quickly as possible... Because with a brick for aero, nothing else is going to matter.
With a vette... Hmmm...
Any more results? I know Rob isn't the only cam-only guy running strong at the track.
