Racing "light" seat belts?

Anyone tried to replace the "non lock" type shoulder belt with a locking type lap belt "mechanism".

If at all possible from a mounting point of view?

I have a stock 01 car where only the lap locks.

regards

Sure there must be someone out here who had the same thought as myself

I´m just looking for a firmer, tighter seating without replacing the OE seat and installing a 4-6 point harnes + bar. (Which still is on the "to do" list for the future) but in the mean time, wouldnt it make sense/work, to have the locking feature also on the shoulder belt.

regards

Hey GS1000FF,

If a set of stock 02 Z belts and retractors will get you what you are looking for, I have a full set both sides with about 7K miles. Car was never smoked in.

They became spare parts when the cage and harnesses went in.

$50 US + shipping if you are interested.

Hmmm.. your stock should belt should actually tightne down as you go faster.

I know if I hit the gas in my car, the should belt seems to tighten up itself.. or maybe I am just imagining this behaviour.

i have 03 and my shoulder belt does not lock like the lap belt does when you pull it all the way. Before you order 2002+ hardware, make sure it will do what you expect it to

if you just want a tighter lapbelt, you could install the BK hardware and then clip on some lap race belts

Hmm...... not so clear it seems?

01 belt only have the locking mechanism in the LAP belt.
Was that changed in 02 with locking also in the SHOULDER belt??

I read some other place here that the new C6 Z06 had positive locking in both places, if first pulled all the way out.

Back to square one, could you install the lap belt mechanism/roller in the shoulder belt position and another thing, can you take out the belt only from the mechanism roller and reinstall a lap mechanism in its place and simply reinstal the belt cord in the roller

I get the impresion that best option might be to go 6 point and a harnes right away!

Hello GS1000FF,

I sent you a PM.

If I recall correctly:

The belt in my 02Z uses one (1) retractor mounted at the floor to the outside of the seat.

The belt has a sliding tab for the buckle connection, then is bolted to the structure above your shoulder.

If you pull the belt all the way out, it sets the retractor so it will hold the length of the belt when you feed the slack back into the reel.

Once tight across your body, the belt you have is all you get.

If you lean your chest forward, the belt pulls through the buckle tab back to bottom mount. any give at that point is coming from compressing your gut.

For maximum tension, you have to pull from the buckle towards the retractor while sucking in your gut and pushing back against the seat springs.

I hope this all makes it through the translation OK.
