Am about to put a deposit down on Bertil Roos' 5 day course... the amount of direct instruction looks good, the courses (VIR especially and Pocono) are gorgeous, and the price seems fair.
Any opinions on the school you might have gone to? Thanks...
My wife is attending the Bertil Roos 5-day road racing school at VIR in March. She wants to race open wheel professionally, so we did nearly 2 years of serious research.
Bertil Roos is one of only five schools eligible to recommend graduates for regional and national SCCA licenses. They are one of only a handful of schools with training focused entirely on open wheel.
We've had extensive discussions with the staff and I think you made the right choice by choosing to put down a deposit with Roos. After completing the school, you'll be instantly eligible for the Roos Racing open wheel series. Plus, the graduates are apparently a very close-knit family.
PM me if you'll be attending the VIR school so we can possibly meet face-to-face.
BTW, if you want training that isn't exclusively open wheel & focuses on Vettes, Justin Bell is supposedly fantastic. We attended some one-on-one training with him and he's a great person as well as an excellent teacher.

Roos is great for learning to race. Bragg-Smith in my opinion is the best if you want to learn to drive your street car on a track. I attended Level 1 and 2 and it was excellent. The instructors are very good and you really learn a lot about your street car. I am planning on going again,
My dad did the Bertil Roose school up at Pocono. He said he he was learning stuff, where the Stock Car school was more like an experience type thing. They took them out in volvo's to learn the course and when the students were done and getting ready to hop in the forumula fords, they gave everyone who was with them rides in the volvo's untill the students were ready to go on the track. So they treat you well.

I heard that's true. I'm going up there to watch Ingrid learn but they said I could attend all the classroom instruction as well, just not drive the cars. Maybe I'll get to do the Volvo thing while she drives the F2000s.
This too is a very subjective topic. Just like which oil you use and how often you change it.
I'll rave about Bragg-Smith because that's the school I attended. Rupert and his instructors are top notch professional people. I learned a lot about the car I drive because all of the instruction was in a Z06. Classroom time was held to a minimum and the vast majority of time was spent on the track with an instructor sitting next to you in the car or communicating with you as they watched along the track. Braking, steering, shifting, driving technique and skid pad instruction were learned, tested and practiced. Since I spend a number of weeks in Las Vegas every year, I'm planning on going back for another dose of Rupert's adrenalin rushes.
I had the pleasure of riding shotgun with Rupert in his race prepared Z06 for a few hot laps. Every inch of every lap was at the limit of adhesion. An experience I won't forget.
Take a look at the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving in Phoenix, AZ. It was outstanding!

The gentleman whose shop built my race car, as well as John Heinricy's, and our own Subdriver, sent his own 17 year old son to Bertil Roos at Pocono.
He could not say enough good things about what his son learned and how he was treated. My only problem with this is that this young man will be competing against me very soon.
My gut tells me you will get your money's worth.
