Brian, glad you finally passed that yellow guy before your tape ran out! Super driving and thanks for sharing all the video.. I feel a little better that I got to ride around with you since I couldn't make it personally. Hope to see you in April. Take care.
Actually, he was waiting for me, and he is pretty quick in that car-but, all friendships are out the window when the green flag drops! See you in April.
Thanks for posting videos! I get to re-live my weekend vicariously.
My 02 Z has GS wheels (275 & 315 KD's thoroughly heat cycled), lowered 5 turns & front negative camber about 1.5 degrees. The rest is stock right down to the OEM air filter. The best I could manage at RA was a 2:44. I'm trying to reconcile the 10 second difference in out lap times.
I was using 2nd out of 14, up shifting to third at the end of the curbing and grabbing 4th at the Coke sign. You were in third thru 14 and going to fourth well before the coke sign. Much higher exit velocity due to Hoosiers?
I quit with 4th gear (145 on HUD) and lifted way back from the brake markers for 1 as I wasn't real confident in the brake capacity. You went to 5th back by the pit wall. Short shift?
My speed thru 1 seemed about same as yours as our shift points to 4th were both just past the corner station for 2. Hoosier advantage goes away at higher speeds?
Running down to 5 you were in 5th gear again. I quit at 145 and coasted to the 5 marker and didnt initiate heavy braking until much later. The car would have handled it, but I can't get that rotor cracking thin out of the back of my mind.
Thru 5 you were in third and I was in second. Advantage Hoosiers?
Thru the carousel the HUD was reading 76 MPH +/-
The kink... I used to run flat thru there in a V6 powered car on race tires. I think the HUD is a distraction here as the entrance is 120-130 MPH and hitting the brakes alway over-slows the car to 80. I wish there was a way to hit the brakes and just snub it down to 95 or so.
I'm pretty sure I use 3rd gear from Canada corner all the way to 14. I was just breathing the throttle under the bridge an taking out to the escape road for 5. I think your short shifting to 4th was loosing some time some time here... yeah... like you need pointers... 10 seconds faster.
Thanks again for the videos.

I think you have more time left on the table with the car as is. Obviously Hoosiers will make you faster, but I bet the car can do 2:36-2:39 as is. My stock S2000 on R-compounds can run 2:44's and that thing has 240hp/153lbft.
I had the black supercharged 02 this weekend. Ive done a bunch of autoxing, but this was my first highspeed event - quite the humbling experience to see what you experienced Z drivers were running compared to me (2:50ish on sunday was by best - still on bfg takds).
Enough rambling - your vids are an awesome learning tool for myself, being a newb to high speed events. My biggest limitation throughought the weekend was letting myself brake later (I just cant do that yet, lol). Something about seeing a hard downhill left coming at you at 140+mph makes me lift reallly really early still
What size tires are you running for these events? I am looking to getting slicks next season
Thanks!

Yes-the grip does help.

I shift at about 6300 RPM-that might explain the gear changes-sacrifice a few tenths, but save parts. I hope.

Could be-I have never driven it on street tires.

preference-have gone to 2nd before

If I don't short shift, I hit the rev limiter there. The only Vette I saw stay in third, was Lou G-and his revved to 7G.

Now I'm not so sure about staying in third all the way to 14. I can't remember much about which gear I'm in except that when I gassed it under the bridge it had a lot of power.

Hehe! I was lifting and coasting at 135... Like you, I wasn't familiar enough with the car's considerable stopping power. Next time out in April, I will work on my braking points.
bb, thanks (..once again) for posting the video!
