Originally posted by quickSS Last weekend I participated in a 2 day Driver's Ed with the Peachstate Chapter of the PCA. I drove my SS. The PCA folks were very gracious.
Only 1 Z06 was present, in Group 3 (1 being novice, where I was, and 5 being the fastest/most skilled). The Z06 was yellow, and was covered in clear racer's tape to prevent scuffs and chips--it looked like it had been shrink-wrapped! In part because of the rain on Saturday, we had a few wrecks, including one totalled 911 in Group 5. This car hit a bridge support, but the driver was okay.
My instructor moved me up to Group 2 for the next event, so I feel like I improved greatly over my 2 days. The SS was passing quite a few cars with more impressive pedigrees. We were running Hawk HP Plus pads, Motul 600 brake fluid, and CCW 17 x 10 wheels w 275-40-17 Kuhmo Victoracers. I might go to a stronger, race-only brake pad for these events in the near future.
See the last page of my website (link below) for a few pictures from the event.
They started me out in the novice group for the first few sessions and then moved me up to group 2, they would have moved me to group 3 but it was so full they couldn't.
I was running the stock F1 SC's with stock 02 brake pads on Baer slotted rotors and ATE brake fluid.
I run the plastic to help keep the chips and road rash down. It works great, did you happen to see me on Sunday after I had pulled it all off??? The car was nice and clean and I didn't have to spend hours getting it ready for the caravan.
Originally posted by quickSS Tell me what product you used to "Shrink Wrap" your yellow Z06. I may put some on my car, as I have gotten a few paint chips at the track. Thanks.
The protectant wrap he used is clear carpet tape film from Home Depot. There are two kinds, the difference being how the film unrolls, meaning whether or not the film unwinds with the sticky side on the inside or outside. Inexpensive and very efficient.
