Road Atlanta last weekend

I made it out to Road Atlanta this past weekend to participate in the BMW driving school. The car didn't fall apart while I was out there so I guess I didn't screw up on changing the brake pads, flushing the brake fluid, flushing the clutch fluid, and changing the oil.

Since it was a BMW club thing, there were a lot of old 325s, but there was an occasional M3 and M coupe to play with.

Bye Bye M coupe (1.5 MB MPG)

At the end of the weekend I could tell that I had worked the car hard.

Dirty Z06

I thought I had silver rims, not black
It is great to be able to drive the Z06 the way it was ment to be driven. If you haven't had a chance to take your beast to a road track yet, I strongly suggest you make an appointment.

Drag racing is fun and blowing away a viper on the street every now and then is excellent... But unless you get it on a road course you'll never see its full potential.

How did you get involved with the BMW folks? Do you have to own a BMW or no? I am looking to get more track time and they seem to host alot of events!

The local BMW chapter here doesn't require you to be a member to participate in their track events. The club members get priority, but there is aways room for the poor folk that don't have beemers.

I'd suggest looking up your local BMW or Porche club and finding out if they sponsor any "Driver Education Schools" at the local track. Chances are they do.

Plenty of tracks open up and allow you to run your car on them, but I'd look for these "Driver Education Schools" and take those if you can. In these schools they provide in car instruction. I think this is invaluable.

When you finally get out there let me know what you thought. I'm sure you'll be grinning from ear to ear for weeks afterward.

ack.Z06 - A bunch of us are heading over to the Petit LeMans, do you attend? Also have you been to the track days at Road Atlanta?

I've never been to the Petit ( I think my attention span is to short ). I try to catch a few hours of the SCCA events when they have them at Road Atlanta.

I've been to the track days a few times, but now I'm only going to the schools. I think there is more value at the schools; in car instructors and class room time. You just have to put up with all the BMW or Porche freaks

Sounds like several guys in the area are going to the Track Days in November. I'm not going to sign up, but I'm thinking about showing up just to check out the hardware and meet some more Z06 people.

Glad you could make it out to Road Atlanta for the DE. That was a good event. I was there with my M3 (dont' know me for this as I am currently looking for a Z06 to replace the car) but the weekend was cut short. Ran off track in Turn 7 and ripped my front spoiler off and bent the power steering pump brackets. Oh well next time but I did get to drive a black 325 race car for the rest of the weekend.

How did you like your instructors? I ask as I am an instructor with the Peachtree Chapter and I know we are always looking for some advice. I feel the school does everyone some good as you get in car instruction and instant feedback. If you do another one of these schools and want someone fun to instruct you ask for Seth Thomas. I would love to ride in a Z06 around the track and help anybody out with their lines. Plus I hope to have a Z06 by the March school.

One other thing to point out is that if you are going to be doing more of these schools it might be a good idea to join BMWCCA. Only reason I say this is it makes the cost of the school about $40 cheaper if you are a member. Joining the BMWCCA does cost you $35 for a year but if you do 3 schools a year then you just saved yourself $75 and you get first priority to the schools. Just some food for thought.
